Rustler Is Grand Theft Horse

Rustler was shown off during Gamescom's Future Games Show, and it's basically GTA with horses.

The Future Games Show showcased Rustler, which is a medieval take on the first two GTA games. That means that it's an isometric open-world game that has you stealing horses, going to taverns, shooting crossbows, and completing absurd quests.

The description for Rustler on Steam describes it as letting you, "Become a medieval thug in a crazy open-world action game, full of pop-culture references. Complete insane quests, kill heroes, steal horses, fight guards, rob peasants, listen to some bard music, and much more! All packed in an old-school gameplay style!"

A demo for the game is available, and it was previously an early access game. According to Steam, the reception to Rustler has been very positive, with fans praising how well it imitates the classic GTA games whilst putting its own spin on things. The sense of humour is very GTA too, with videos of the game on its Steam page showing players drawing NSFW symbols in the dirt with their carriages.

Rustler isn't trying to be subtle with its references to Rockstar Games and seems to wear them proudly on its sleeve, including the character in the key art looking incredibly similar to Bully's Jimmy Hopkins, the in-game UI resembling classic Grand Theft Auto, and the general gameplay style essentially being a classic GTA game set in medieval times.

The trailer for the game also revealed a release date of August 31. Rustler will be releasing on all consoles, as well as Steam.
