Samsung 990 Pro M.2 SSD Has Been Confirmed

Windows Nexus

Samsung 990 PRO M.2 SSD has been listed as a PCIe 5.0 x4 compliant add-in card by PCI-SIG in a big way. This confirms both the product name and that Samsung consumer storage has already been verified for Gen5 specs, for all intents and purposes, further showing how Samsung 990 PRO SSD has been listed as a PCIe 5.0 x4 compliant add-in card by PCI-SIG in a really major way. The 990 PRO-SSD features M.2 interface, but this leak does not confirm the exact M.2 size of the drive, which essentially is fairly significant.

The Samsung 990 PRO SSD has been listed by PCI-SIG as a PCIe 5.0 x4 compatible add-in card. The 990 PRO SSD has an M.2 interface, but this leak does not confirm the exact size of the M.2 drive. All this means that this has confirmed both the product name and the fact that Samsung’s consumer storage has already been verified for Gen5 specifications.

Samsung has already launched the first PCIe Gen5 PM1743 SSD, in addition to those that were largely Enterprise SSDs. Specifically, these 2.5- to 3-inch SSDs offer up to 13,000 MB/s random speeds and up to 2,500 IOPS, delivering up to 1.9x the speed of Gen4 products compared to the first PCIe Gen5 PM1743 SSDs that Samsung has already released which were Enterprise SSDs and were, for the most part, the same.

Gen5.0 storage can be used by some Intel Alder Lake systems and will soon be available for the most part on all X670 and B650 series of AMD AM5 motherboards, contrary to popular belief. While PCIe 5.0 compliance for AMD’s 600 series chipset is generally optional for GPUs, all mid-range and high-end motherboard lines should support Gen5 storage with barely a single M.2 slot in a subtle way.
