Sea Of Thieves: A Guide To The Lords Of The Sea Tall Tale

Quick Links

The final tall tale in the Sea of Thieves crossover with the Pirates of the Caribbean is called Lords of the Sea. It is the culmination of the entire story as you face off against numerous ships, and the Flying Dutchman, in one of the biggest battles you have ever seen. You might want to have a crew by your side to help you finish this tall tale as it can be quite involved and a challenge for even the most seasoned pirates.

It has its own set of commendations that you need to complete, and this guide will help you through them all. Some players might have to attempt this a few times, but you won't need to with these tips and tricks.

Find The Castaway

As with every tall tale in this series you need to find the Castaway at an Outpost. This time you will need to interact with the sword in the sand in order to vote on this tall tale and begin.

The one major difference is that you do want to stop by the merchants and grab some basic supplies as there will be a huge battle on the sea that will take place from your ship. Here are the pros and cons of each so you can head into dangerous waters with the best ship at your disposal. You want to be prepared so you don't have to repeat this tall tale all over again.

Follow Davy Jones

The head of Davy Jones will appear in the sky and you need to follow it out to sea. Eventually, there will be a huge spiral-shaped island known as the Spire coming out of the water and this is when the fun begins.

You will be tasked with taking down 20 ghost ships and ten siren statues, and hopefully, your game doesn't crash. It will take about five cannonballs to bring down each of the statues, which is why it is so important to stock up before heading out on this adventure.

Kill The Ocean Crawlers

During the battle, there might be some ocean crawlers who spawn on your ship, and killing them will earn you a commendation. It is best to lower your anchor at this point so your ship doesn't wander aimlessly into the middle of the fight.

Go To The Spire And Collect The Journals

Eventually, other ships will appear to help you in the fight and Calypso will begin hitting the spire island with her lightning. This is your signal to head to the Spire and park your ship, as you will now have access to its shores. Once you land, you can start making your way to the top by traversing the inclines.

There are five journals for you to collect on the Spire and they are as follows:

  • Next to a phantom holding a candle
  • On your left, after you cross the wooden bridge
  • Climb up the mast then look to the left after walking through the cell doorway
  • After jumping down the ship hull slide look toward the end of the room
  • At the top of the shipwreck

Go To The Top Of The Spire Then Fight The Phantoms

After you have all the journals continue up the Spire until you reach the very top, where you will see Beckett waiting beside a chest. Next, phantoms will appear who you will have to fight, but Calypso will eventually help you take them out by using her lightning.

Collect The Key And Open The Chest

A phantom will drop a key and you need to pick this up as it will open the chest with Davy Jones's heart, and some wish the Silver Blade Key was as easy to retrieve. You need to take the key and open it where it lies next to where Beckett was standing.

Calypso will instruct you to go back to your ship, and there will be a broken ship mast that will let you jump directly into the water.

Fight The Flying Dutchman

Your final fight involves taking on the Flying Dutchman, but you won't be alone. Other ships will come to your aid and help you in this venture, but you will take the final shot.

One tip is to keep your distance because it would be a terrible end if you happened to sink at this point in the tall tale.

Board The Black Pearl

After the Flying Dutchman is defeated, the Black Pearl will rise out of the water and you will be able to board it. The last journals can be found here to complete the rest of your commendations and unlock the new shanty.

There are five in all and here is where you can find them:

  • On the upper deck at the front of the ship
  • In the Captain's Quarters on the table
  • Behind the helm
  • On the banister of the helm itself
  • Below deck on the ground near the barrels at the end of the ship

That will complete the tall tale and it is the last one in the series with their partnership with the Pirates of the Caribbean.
