Silent Hill’s Recent Leak Is Incorrect, According To Bloober Team

Silent Hill (1)

The Medium developer Bloober Team has come out and denied a recent "leak" that claimed the studio is working on a Silent Hill under one the codenames "Black" or "Dum Spiro".

The codenames of threeBloober Team projects were recently discovered after Bloober filed for EU funding, forcing the team to describe the potential plots of these projects in its application. The three codenames discovered are H2O, Black, and Dum Spiro, the former being the codename for Layers of Fear 2. The projects under the codenames Black and Dum Spiro are still in development.

As you might expect, this led Silent Hill fans to speculate that one of these two projects is the rumored Silent Hill game that Bloober Team is supposedly working on for Konami. However, in a statement to IGN, Bloober Team has claimed that neither of these codenames are attributed to a Silent Hill project and that recent speculation is based on "incomplete information."

Bloober Team then goes on to explain that both of the games under the codenames Black and Dum Spiro have been shelved in favor of different titles, both of which are going to be larger in scale than the team's most recent release, The Medium:

"After numerous iterations of Dum Spiro, we’ve concluded we can’t at the moment deliver it in a form that is appropriately sensitive to the topic and commercially viable at the same time," explains Bloober. "…Similarly, the initial idea for Black has also been shelved."

It's worth noting that Bloober Team isn't denying that it's working on a Silent Hill game, rather explaining that both of the codenames found aren't connected to it. Konami and Bloober Team recently announced a partnership that will see Bloober develop games for the publisher based on new and existing IP. If Bloober is making a game for Konami based on existing IP, it's difficult to see it being anything other than Silent Hill.

As for what we actually know Bloober Team has cooking, the studio's latest release, The Medium, is heading to PS5 on September 3rd for those of you out there who haven't played it yet. The game is also available on PC and Xbox Series X|S and is also playable via Game Pass. You can read our review here if you'd like to know more before you jump in.
