Sky: Children Of The Light – Home Guide

In Sky: Children Of The Light, your home is your base point for all of your adventures. The home area holds many useful features and key tools that you can master to become the ultimate expert at the game. If you want to get the most out of this area, it's a good idea to set aside some time to fully explore it and find out what you can do.

However, it is important to remember that some parts of the home area will be unlocked gradually as you progress through the story. If you are exploring your home at the very beginning of your journey, there will be some parts that you are unable to access.

You Can Join Your Friends

Sky: Children of the Light was designed to be a social game where you need other players in order to solve certain puzzles or gain access to other areas. Thatgamecompany was clever to add ways around this, should you want to play solo, but it's extremely fun to play with friends. It's a bit tricky to figure out how to play multiplayer, so check out our guide.

Being able to play with your friends makes exploring realms much easier, especially if one of them has already completed their adventure. For example — one of the Spirits in Isle Of Dawn, cannot be reached until you have released two Spirits from the next realm and you cannot go back to Isle Of Dawn until your adventure is completed. If your friend has completed theirs and accompanies you on your journey, they can help you gain access to these areas.

You Can Return To Your Adventure

When you are playing through the Realms and you complete one, you instantly start to travel to the next Realm. However, if you click the X button to bring up your side menu, there is an option to travel back to your home from the current save point. This means that the game will remember where you are and bring you back here from your home, so you haven't lost any progress.

To return to your adventure from your home you need to head over to the Return Shrine, which is a little area near the Realm Portals that has a small statue on it and is surrounded by a few candles. Press Y when you're here and it will ask you if you want to return to your adventure. If you do then you simply need to accept!

The Portals To The Realms

When you first begin your journey, you will only have access to one Portal and this will take you to Isle Of Dawn. Once you complete a Realm, the next one will be unlocked and the Portal to that realm will appear at your home. If you want to know the name of the Realm the Portal leads to, you need to walk up to it slowly but do not walk into it. If you stand close to the Portal, the Realm name should show up at the bottom of your screen.

If you wish to return to a Realm that you have completed, then you can use these Portals to do so. Take your time when you are in there to really explore everything.

Customization Corner

There is an area to the left of the Portals where there are several archways embedded into the rock. Within the archways, there are drawings of your character with different parts of it highlighted (legs, hair, arms). This is where you can go to customize your character as you unlock different cosmetics throughout the game.

The art in the archways corresponds to which part of your character you can customize from there, so if you wished to customize your hair then you need to look for the artwork with the hair highlighted.

Constellation Table

The Constellation Table serves multiple purposes in your home and each one is really helpful to know. It's a large stone circle on the ground near the Realm Portals.

Communicating With Friends

Here is where you can see which of your friends (if any) are online and available for you to play with. If your friends are offline but you want to send them a cute gift then you can do this through the table. You will need to go to the table and press Y to activate it. Then you need to press the L button until the screen changes to your friends list (it looks like a constellation). You can invite your friends to play with you from this point, too. You can even change their nickname to something you will recognize or prefer.

Important: Some interactions, such as sending gifts, will not be available until you progress to a certain point in the game.

Track Your Progress

At the Constellation Table, you can track your progress in each Realm that you have visited. To do this you need to step onto the table and press Y to activate it. Then you can use R or L to switch between screens to see your progress in the different realms. You can see which Spirits you have rescued and how many Spirits out of each Realm that you have visited.

The Mysterious Gate

If you explore your home you will find a large set of rock doors that make up a mysterious gate that is on a small piece of land surrounded by water. When you walk up to it you will not able to open it and you will see a marker that gives you a number out of 20. This is showing you how many Winged Lights you have collected in the game. If you have only collected two then it will read 2/20.

As you've probably guessed, you need 20 Winged Lights to be able to access this Mysterious Area. You are most likely going to be able to access this once you have fully explored and completed all of the other realms. There are Winged Lights in each realm for you to find and some of them are extremely well-hidden.

Chimes To Show The Time

Whilst you are spending time in your home area, you may notice that every so often there are soft chimes that briefly appear in the background and then disappear again. They are a very subtle noise, so if you're running around, flying, or using one of the features here, you probably won't hear it.

These chimes are actually there to act as a clock as they go off every 15 minutes exactly, which is brilliant for clocking (sorry) how long you have been on your game for. This is especially useful, since monitoring your screen-time has become more important recently, but it's also just a nice small detail to listen out for.

Lighting Changes In Real-Time

Another awesome detail put into this game is that the lighting changes in accordance with real-time! You will experience Dawn, Day, Dusk, and Night in your home area.

There's nothing particularly special added into the daylight changes in the forms of useful tools as it's really just a cosmetic change. However, that being said, at night it is far easier to see the Constellation maps at the Constellation table.

Message Boats Can Be Left

Your home is surrounded by water and water is the only place that other people can leave message boats. Message Boats have to be purchased and you can place them in the water with messages that you have written. The messages can only be seen by players that you are friends with until they reach a certain popularity level. After reaching this, anybody may see them!

Bored? Go Swimming Or Flying!

Sometimes when you're playing a game, you need a rest from the story but you still want to be in that game world. That's where the home area comes in handy. You can amuse yourself here by going flying once you have unlocked your ability to fly by collecting the Winged Light in Isle Of Dawn. You don't need to worry about losing your charge to fly, because when you land, you can simply press A to call Creatures Of The Light to recharge you!

If you don't feel like flying, then you can always go for a swim. Granted, you can only swim a small way before the game stops you from going any further. However, it is a really good way to kill some time and relax. Swimming around whilst listening to the soundtrack of this game is definitely going to give you some calming vibes.

Your home area in Sky: Children Of The Light is full of fun things to discover, so get exploring!
