Skyward Sword Surpasses Pokemon Snap In Physical Sales

The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD's physical sales in the UK have already surpassed those of New Pokemon Snap.

A number of major video game series are celebrating big anniversaries in 2021. Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, and Donkey Kong just to name a few. The Legend of Zelda also turned 35 this year, a milestone Nintendo was accused of not adequately acknowledging. However, the remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword appears to be making more of a splash than first thought.

In the UK, Skyward Sword HD's physical sales have already surpassed New Pokemon Snap's. That's impressive for a couple of reasons. One, Pokemon Snap has been on the market almost three months longer than Skyward Sword HD. Two, the Zelda remake hasn't even been on sale for three weeks at this point.

Zelda games also don't tend to perform quite as well as other big Nintendo IPs in the UK. Skyward Sword HD is only the fourth game in the series' history to make it to number one in the UK's physical chart. It also only managed to spend one week in the top spot after being dethroned by F1 2021 which launched on the same weekend. The racing sim has remained at number one for the two weeks since then.

As for Pokemon Snap, there's a very real chance it takes that position back from Skyward Sword at some point this week. The game's first major update goes live today and it will add three new areas and 20 new Pokemon to the game. It was an unannounced update with The Pokemon Company not mentioning anything about additional DLC coming to the game post-launch. The update is free, which means if you buy the game right now you'll get the update too.

All of the above only accounts for physical sales, of course. When digital sales are brought into the fold it might well paint a different picture. It's a good gauge of how well games are performing though, especially since GTA 5 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are in the top ten best-sellers in the UK physical chart almost every single week.
