David Hayter, the legendary voice of Solid Snake, has expressed an interest in voicing Wolverine for Insomniac’s upcoming PS5 exclusive.

The actor, writer, and director has history with the Marvel icon, having written the screenplays for both 2000’s X-Men movie and its sequel, X-Men 2.

When a fan points out that Hayter would be a solid (haha) choice for bringing Wolverine to life for the PS5 game, here’s how he responde

I admit… I was thinking that. https://t.co/tSe2UnvEx7

His gravelly Metal Gear tones definitely suits the claw-wielding X-Men star. In fact, I was shocked when looking through Hayter’s IMDB profile to find that he has never voiced the character in previous TV shows or video games.

Insomniac Games hasn’t announced who will don the mutton chopped mantle of Wolverine for their PS5 exclusive. Actually, there’s very little we know about the game beyond the brief cinematic teaser shown during the latest PlayStation showcase. No gameplay details or a release date were announced.

What we do know is that it’s being developed by a second team within Insomniac – the same crew who worked on Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The project is being led by creative director, Brian Horton, and game director, Cameron Chrtistian.

If Wolverine wasn’t enough, Insomniac also unveiled Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is due to release in 2023. The sequel will see Peter Parker and Miles Morales go up against their most threatening foe to date – the villainous Venom.

Interestingly, as part of Spider-Man 2’s announcement, it was confirmed that Tony Todd will lend his voice to Venom.

Going back to David Hayter, it’s been a long while since he last brushed off his CQC skills, hiding in cardboard boxes, and generally saving the planet. Metal Gear Solid genius, Hideo Kojima, infamously replaced Hayter with 24 actor Kiefer Sutherland for Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain.

Since the somewhat rubbish (and completely unnecessary) Metal Gear Survive, the Konami franchise has lain dormant. With Silent Hill and Castlevania back in the spotlight, we’ll likely see Solid Snake return at some point with Hayter hopefully back in the booth.
