Song Of The Hero, Lanayru Walkthrough – Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

Quick Links

We've nearly got the Song Of The Hero completed in our The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD full walkthrough. In this installment, we've already dealt with the songs from Faron and Eldin, the Water and Fire Dragons respectively, and now we're moving onto Lanayru the Thunder Dragon, and he has the final part of the song we need. Only, it might be tough to figure out how to find him – or heal him, as the case may be.

In this guide we've got a full walkthrough to everything you need to do to complete the song before visiting Levias, if you're stuck at any point during the Lanayru Thunder Dragon portion of the game, we'll have the answer for you below. Make sure to take a look at our Water Dragon Faron and Fire Dragon Eldin guide if you haven't got those parts of the song quite yet.

Lanayru Gorge

First off, let's head to the West Desert. Climb up the minecart to your right immediately (assuming you pushed it down, there's a Clawshot grapple point otherwise), and head up into the Lanayru Caves. You'll remember the Goron that was mining in here – well he's finally broken through and uncovered a new path. Roll a bomb into the hole first, and then crawl inside and through to the next area, Lanayru Gorge.

The Thunder Dragon isn't here – but there is a pile of bones at the back that resembles him. Seems like he died. Well, luckily, there are plenty of timeshift stones in this region, so let's use them. First, head over to the right side of the stage and bomb the pile of rocks here on the pillar, then use it to hop across the gorge. Ignore this locked door, and head to the edge of the path on the left. Use your Beetle to dive into the gorge and pick up a shiny thing on a pillar down below – it's a Small Key. Get the door open.

Use the floating plants to Clawshot your way across the gorge, and head into the cave. Inside you'll find a minecart with a timeshift stone on it – we'll be following this until we return to the Thunder Dragon. Talk to the ancient robot to get the minecart started. The minecart will regularly come to a stop outside of special doors which you will need to use switches to open – look out for these, they will only be accessible when in range of the minecart.

The first room is filled with quicksand – just stick near to the cart and clear out enemies as you go. The next area is a gorge, and a bridge will appear when in proximity of the cart. The switch here is on some vines to the top right. Next we're in a cave, where you'll be using vines and the Clawshots to make it across – the bridge that appears is fairly linear, just watch out for bridges, vines, and Clawshot grapple points to make it through, while clearing out enemies. When on the large vine wall, be cautious with your stamina, and make sure to grab stamina fruit when they appear.

Once through this room, use your Whip through the gate to open it. Watch for the dangerous spinning tops – use the minecart as cover from them. You'll need to use your Whip a few times in here to cross gaps along with the minecart – just follow it close by. In the final part of this section, you'll need to wait for the minecart to get out of range of the electric fence, and then use the three stamina fruit that lay along the wall to go into the quicksand and survive running your way around to the switch that needs flipped.

Near the end now. The minecart will circle this room, and there will be plenty of enemies, so wipe them out as it moves. The switch to the last door here is behind the totem to the left of the door. One final area, and the Thunder Dragon is in sight. Use the timeshift bridge and defeat enemies along the way – when the minecart gets stuck, use the Beetle and the bombs on the nearby pillar to remove the rocks that block its path. Now you'll finally be face to face with Lanayru the Thunder Dragon.

Growing The Tree Of Life

Lanayru the Thunder Dragon will be back to life, but he's actually not feeling well at all. In fact, he's dying, which explains why the ancient Mining Facility and sea dried up and fell to ruin. The Ancient Robots have attempted to heal him growing a Tree of Life, but it can't grow in the arid climate. Time to help them out a bit.

As you walk away from the Thunder Dragon, you'll see a new path on your right, leading to a tree in the distance. Head over. Hop across the quicksand, taking a break on the way, and then climb up to where the tree is. Use the Gust Bellows to blow away the sand on a nearby timeshift stone, and then use it to turn the dying tree into a healthy sapling. Dig it up, and run back down the path. You'll need to send your Beetle out to hit the timeshift stone on the minecart again to bring the bridge back. Now use the Bird Statue to return to the sky.

We're going back to the Sealed Grounds. Go inside where the old woman is, and head through the Gate of Time. While in the past, with Impa, plant the Tree of Life sapling in the soft soil on the left side of the room, and then return back through the Gate of Time. The sapling will now be a mighty tree, with a Tree of Life fruit hanging from it. Headbutt it to make the fruit drop, grab it, and return to Lanayru.

Lanayru will be overjoyed, chow down on his new fruit, and will be healthier than ever, and will sing for you his part of the Song Of The Hero. If this is the final part of the song you needed, you can now return to Levias inside the Thunderhead. If this is not your final verse, make sure to check our guide on getting the verses from Faron the Water Dragon and Eldin the Fire Dragon.
