Sonic Colors: Ultimate – How to Get All Chaos Emeralds

Quick Links

Sonic Colors: Ultimate is out now, giving new and returning players an opportunity to experience Sonic's remastered interstellar adventure. While the Ultimate version of the game does feature a variety of changes and improvements, one thing remains a constant, and has done so for the vast majority of the long-running series: the all-powerful Chaos Emeralds.

Originally releasing for Wii and Nintendo DS in 2010, Sonic Colors: Ultimate is a full high-definition remaster of SEGA's Sonic Colors. The new version of the game has been unfortunately plagued with a variety of bugs and glitches, with the Switch edition reportedly unplayable. Developer Blind Squirrel Entertainment is aware of the issues, and have said a Sonic Colors: Ultimate patch is on the way.

How to Get All Chaos Emeralds in Sonic Colors: Ultimate

The seven Chaos Emeralds are mystical relics that have been historically utilized for a variety of functions, from warping time and space, to powering machinery, to initiating super transformations. However, acquiring them is usually a tall order, and Sonic Colors: Ultimate is no different. Chaos Emerald hunters will need to complete every single one of the "Eggman's Sonic Simulator" Game Land stages. The collection of retro 8-bit stages are represented by the Chaos Emeralds, each of which sports three stages of its color, totaling 21 stages. Once players complete the third stage of a color, the corresponding Chaos Emerald will be given as a reward. However, players will need to unlock the Game Land stages first.

Collect Sonic Colors: Ultimate's Red Star Rings for Game Land

In order to unlock Game Land levels in Sonic Colors: Ultimate, players will need to collect every Red Star Ring inside of the main stages. Every Act in every Area (with the exception of Boss Areas and Terminal Velocity) have five Special Rings hidden within them, making for a total of 180. Players will be rewarded with a 30,000 "Special Bonus" point boost upon collecting one, but all five must be collected to access the next Game Land stage. Once players have collected all 180 rings, and completed all 21 Game Land stages, they'll be rewarded with the seven Chaos Emeralds, which are used to transform into Super Sonic.

Players can use Super Sonic to run at the highest speeds possible, and should be able to dash through enemies without taking any damage. However, Super Sonic is largely an end-game reward, due to the fact certain Red Star Rings are only accessible after unlocking all of the Wisps. The special rings are particularly well-hidden as well, making the collect-a-thon a challenge all its own.

Attaining Super Sonic is an impressive acheivement, and is what seperates the hardcore gamers from the casual crowd. Although Sonic Colors: Ultimate is just releasing, its not the only new game the blue blur is showing up in. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is adding Tails and Sonic as playable characters, alongside Jet Set Radio's Beat.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
