Sony Games Same-Day PC Launches Will Not Happen Anytime Soon

Sony and PC gamers have a will they-won’t they relationship with regard to first party games coming to PC. It’s already brought Horizon: Zero Dawn and Days Gone to the platform, and the acquisition of Tomb Raider port and Avengers studio Nixxes has further fanned the rumours about Sony ramping up on the PC side of things. Unfortunately, Sony Studios boss Hermen Hulst has dashed our hopes.

In an interview with Game Informer (via PC Gamer), Hultz effectively said that Sony is focussed on console games for the foreseeable future, and will try and get the most out of them until it decides to make a change.

“Typically, there have been about two years between the release on our platform and the PC platform,” he said. “But you can rely on us to continue to create platform-defining exclusive content for PlayStation – that's part of the reason why we exist. It’s really important for us to squeeze the maximum out of the platform, to build showcases for the platform, and really let the audience see what these great features are contributing to the overall experience.”

While that may be the case, Sony has said that it values PC gamers, and there’s still a possibility of a major push towards the platform in the future. But at the moment, the company just can’t make up its mind when it comes to its stance on the matter. Case in point, with the Nixxes acquisition it seemed that the company was bolstering up for its eventual plans for PC. While an acquisition itself doesn’t mean much, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan himself confirmed the studio’s role.

"We plan to further develop our game development capabilities and develop more exclusive titles for PlayStation owners to enjoy, the results of which you'll see in the coming years," said Ryan. "We are also happy with our efforts to provide our IP to PCs, although it is still in its infancy, and we look forward to working with Nixxes to help with that."

The most recent launch from the PlayStation Studios roster is Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. To celebrate the launch, Sony sent SuckerPunch an eerily realistic, life-sized statue of Jin Sakai.
