Sony’s Studios Pushed for Their Games to Be On PC

God of War has just launched on PC, and it sounds like it took a team effort to get it there. With it being praised by fans and critics alike, it seems like it was the right move.

God of War director Cory Barlog had this to say:

“I think it was the collective of studios all over saying this is a really good idea. Eventually, I think it reached that tipping point. When we had sent so many suggestion box suggestions that they were like, ‘I’m tired of hearing all this. Fine, we’ll do this.’ It’s a process. We’re still figuring it out as a company and as individual studios how to do this and what the process and strategy will be.”

So far, I think this is a winning strategy. Horizon Zero Dawn may have a bit of a rough launch, but it was quickly smoothed over into a stellar experience on PC. Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, and God of War are all fantastic games, and it is great that more people are able to play them.

I know a few people are going to think Sony’s Studios were in the wrong. Somehow, Sony putting these games on PC is terrible and will hurt the PlayStation brand. I absolutely disagree. As we have seen with Xbox this generation, you can still sell consoles while putting your games on PC.

Will we see the sequel, God of War: Ragnarok? Barlog wasn’t sure.

“I have no idea. Right now, we’re taking it one game at a time.”

I certainly hope so. I also hope it doesn’t take 4+ years. Sony is making some of the best games around right now. They really deserve to be played by as many people as possible. Thankfully, Sony seems to be slowly embracing this ideology.
