Spider-Man: No Way Home Director Hilariously Mocks Trailer Leak

After what has seemed like years of speculation and anticipation, the teaser trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home is finally here. Of course, the release of the much-hyped sneak peek was not without its own share of drama, which director Jon Watts acknowledged on social media.

This past weekend, what seemed to be an incredibly low-resolution version of the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer was making the rounds online. Though Sony was very fast-acting in shutting down the many social media accounts sharing the alleged trailer, several people still saw it and the topic was trending on Twitter. Spider-Man actor Tom Holland even seemed to acknowledge the leak, posting a cryptic Instagram story with the message, "You Ain't Ready."

It was predicted that Sony would be very quick to release the official trailer following the leak and that they did. On Monday, an official teaser trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Homewas released. It's still the talk of the internet and has some reveals that are blowing the minds of Marvel fans. The cheeky video posted by Watts to his Instagram page shows someone watching the trailer on their phone. What makes it funny, is that the video is actually making the trailer unwatchable, as it's through the eyes of multiple other phones. Watts captioned the post, "The way the director intended." This is likely to poke fun at the trailer leak, and especially at the fact that the leaked version was extremely low quality.

The trailer itself was, as expected, a huge event on social media. Though the plot of the film and who it will feature has been widely speculated, the trailer offered the first real confirmation of what is going on. It appears to show Peter, exposed as Spider-Man following the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, asking Doctor Strange to help him manipulate time and space so he can try and fix everything. Of course, this seems to backfire.

Some have said that the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer reveals too much and should be avoided if one is trying to stay away from all spoilers. And it does reveal quite a lot of plot, with nods to some highly anticipated characters. However, none of this should be too much of a surprise to fans who have been following the news surrounding the film. It's all things that were anticipated and even predicted.

Leaks of things like trailers can be really damaging and should be taken seriously. However, it's also nice to see the director of the leaked work having fun with an otherwise frustrating situation. If anything, fans are more excited than ever for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is in theaters on December 17, 2021.
