Splitgate’s Beta Is Back On As Servers Finally Get Fixed

Splitgate has been having a rough launch but it's the kind that most indie games can only wish for. Splitgate servers have been inundated with players looking to get in on the free open beta to the point where those servers were hitting capacity, resulting in long wait times and server instability for games in progress.

Going from just over 4,000 players in the first week to 65,000 concurrent players by the end of July is explosive growth by any measure. And, as it turned out, 65,000 was the magic number at which Splitgate's servers hit their physical limits. After that, developer 1047 Games embarked on a mad scramble to increase server capacity, taking the servers offline as the devs implemented upgrades.

Good news came last week after 1047 secured an additional $10 million investment for server upgrades and hiring additional engineers. This led to 1047 extending Splitgates beta into this month as it tried to handle both the unexpected server issues as well as the expected bugs from the open beta.

But it looks like Splitgate's troubles might finally be over. Last night's patch brought down the servers for an hour or so, but the upgrade brought "hugely increased capacity and stability," according to 1047. "Because of this we've seen much shorter queue times while having more demand than ever!"

From server waiting times of between 10 to 30 minutes, last night's average queue time was just five minutes. And a patch from earlier this morning (which added 360 fps support on PC and autosprint in the game settings) promised to reduce server wait times further still.

To take part in the beta test, find Splitgate on the PlayStation or Xbox storefronts or just download the game on PC via Steam. With over 67,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, you’ll be in good company.
