Square Enix offers free week of gaming as apology to players

Final Fantasy 14 players, particularly those who own Endwalker, get a free week

Final Fantasy 14 has been a bit of a painful wait for players. True, there has been a lot of new players and old ones that have been returning. But, that just means there have been problems that come along with it. Namely, the waiting lines to get into play, the errors that players have been experiencing, and the painfully long waits for just getting to play the newly accessible Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker in all of its glory.

And there’s a lot of people who want or have been wanting to play too. According to SteamDB, which tracks the numbers for various game titles, on December 5, 2021, there were 95,150 players on PC. This blasts the previous numbers out of the park, which was 67,148 in July 2021. This could have to do with the new expansion, or it could do with the fact that people want something that is far less troublesome than the WoW franchise and its parent company at the moment.

Either way, Square Enix has noticed what’s going on, and does not want players to leave. So, for those who have an active subscription and have purchased Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker, Enix has offered a free week of playing. Moreover, the creator of the game, Naoki Yoshida, has apologized on behalf of the game for being unable to keep up with player demand.

“Across the FFXIV service as a whole, the number of simultaneous logins has reached the hardware limit, and as a result, logging in has required an extremely long time,” said Yoshida. “For this, I am truly sorry.”

He also adds what causes various errors and how to solve them in a post for all to read, which can be found on the Square Enix blog.
