Stalker 2 No Companions

Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl devs revealed a bunch of new details about the project, highlighting your loneliness in the Exclusion Zone. The team said at GSC Game World that there will be no squadmates in the upcoming FPS, and players won’t be able to get an animal companion, either.

Many modern open-world shooters allow the players to team up with their friends in co-op to bring havoc to the enemies together, or at least to take NPCs for certain missions. For example, Metro Exodus has several sections where you are traveling with your wife or other passengers from The Aurora. Another example is Ubisoft’s Far Cry series, where you can take companions into battle or bring a pet with you to aid in combat. For some reason, this won’t be an option in the upcoming Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl.

During the latest interview, GSC Game World community managers Maxim Tkachenko and Evgeniy Bazarov clearly said “no” while answering the question about the possible companions in Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl. According to them, the game is about desperate loners and danger coming from every corner. “There is definitely no friendship in the Zone,” devs said, hinting you’d better not turn your back on strangers in this world.

In Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, players could have been repeatedly ambushed during their explorations. However, sometimes it was possible to defend a friendly village or a camp against bandits. These types of missions could help to improve relationships with some factions and even grant special rewards. It is possible world events like this will still make their way to the sequel.

Before this, the developers shattered some fans’ expectations to get behind the wheel of a car in Stalker 2. Despite a much bigger open-world environment than in the predecessors, Heart of Chernobyl won’t have any vehicles available for the players.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl is expected on 28 April 2022 if everything will go according to plan. The game will be timely exclusive to PC and Xbox Series X|S before arriving on other platforms.
