Star Citizen Update 3.14 Introduces Orison

Welcome to Orison, the floating city set on the gas giant Crusader. This city is a technical marvel of interconnected platforms all containing various amenities, such as tourist destinations, a peace garden, and a spaceport.

Orison is also Star Citizen's test platform for its new volumetric cloud effects. As a gas giant, Crusader is mostly made of clouds, although given Crusader's similarities to our own Jupiter, those clouds are likely made of hydrogen, helium, methane, and ammonia.

Star Citizen alpha update 3.14 also adds a new ship, the RSI Constellation Taurus. "Perfect for pilots looking to pull out all the stops and streamline their cargo-hauling operation, or captains just get acquainted with multicrew vessels," reads the patch notes. It's also $160 USD. This isn't entirely unusual for Star Citizen, where single ships can routinely cost as much as entire games.

As with most new ships in Star Citizen, the Taurus comes with its own in-universe ad that looks a lot like a car ad from 2018.

A new dynamic event will have Star Citizens test out their blasters by taking on an illegal blockade enacted by a criminal gang. Those dogfights will be the perfect opportunity to get used to Star Citizens' reworked missile controls, which now include a remote Missile Operator Mode. This mode has you relinquish control of your ship in order to manually operate the missile remotely.

There's also new and improved scanning and radar pings and more nuanced power management controls to really feel like you're in full control. There's more besides, which are all detailed at length in the alpha 3.14 patch notes.

By certain measures, Star Citizen is one of the most wildly successful games ever made. The game broke $350 million in crowdfunding earlier this year despite still being in a technical alpha with no release date in sight. That said, Star Citizen is still very much a work in progress as the long list of known issues will at the beginning of the patch notes attests.
