While we wait a bit longer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, its prequel book features a villain from the Obi-Wan Kenobi show.

Last August, a prequel book for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was announced, one that would help bridge the gap between the upcoming game and its predecessor Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Not much else was shared at the time, but the official Star Wars website has provided a first look at the book, complete with an excerpt, plot synopsis, and cover art.

What will intrigue Star Wars fans is the synopsis and cover art reveal the presence of the Fifth Brother, who looks set to serve as the book’s main antagonist.

For any non-Star Wars veterans, the Fifth Brother is one of the Inquisitors, a group of minor Force users who work for the Empire and are responsible for hunting down Jedi.

While the Fifth Brother debuted in the Star Wars Rebels cartoon, he gained a bit more notoriety thanks to his appearance in the live action Obi-Wan Disney+ show.

The synopsis for the book, titled Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars, says that protagonist Cal Kestis and his crew are in search of some kind of object that will help them fight back against the Empire, but ‘acquiring it will bring Cal and the gang into the crosshairs of the Inquisitor known as the Fifth Brother.’

There’s no guarantee this means the Fifth Brother will pop up in the game as well, and his presence in the book could just be fan service, but this isn’t the only tie between the games and the Obi-Wan show.

Aside from the fact that pre-ordering Star Wars Jedi: Survivor nets you some themed cosmetics, one episode of the show shared some blatant parallels with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, right down to re-using a location from the game.

Plus, Obi-Wan actor Ewan McGregor appeared to hint at further ties to the games, saying in an interview you ‘can’t have some fact in a video game that doesn’t match up to the movie.’

The inclusion of the Fifth Brother in a tie-in book feels deliberate at this point and since the first game wasn’t above giving a certain iconic Star Wars character a cameo appearance, it wouldn’t be surprising if someone from the Obi-Wan show (if not the man himself) popped up in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

At the very least, the book could provide some proper insight into the sequel’s story, which EA and Respawn have been keeping under a tight wrap. Even the identity of the person in the bacta tank, from the announcement trailer, hasn’t been figured out yet, though fans are not without their theories.

This comes right around the same time as news of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s delay, as the game was pushed back by six weeks into April.

Fortunately, the book currently faces no such delay and will arrive on March 7. If you wish to read the excerpt yourself, which sees Cal trying to infiltrate a base belonging to the Haxion Brood crime syndicate from the first game, you can do so via the Star Wars website.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launches for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on April 28.
