Once you have enough friendship with Shane, you will need to see his eight-heart event. To trigger it, you just need to enter Marnie's house while Shane is there. A cutscene will trigger, and Jas will lead you to the back room of the house. Shane will introduce you to Charlie the chicken and emphasize his love for chickens.
After the cutscene ends, blue chickens will be unlocked. Now, let's take a look at how to get your first blue chicken.
How To Get A Blue Chicken
There are two different ways to get a blue chicken; incubating or buying.
The first method is by incubating eggs in your coop. White or brown eggs placed in the incubator within your coop will have a 25% chance of hatching into a blue chicken. The incubator becomes available after you upgrade your coop for the first time. If you don't have it yet, visit Robin with 400 wood, 150 stone, and 10,000g. Pay all of this to Robin and she will upgrade the coop for you.
These eggs will take approximately six days to hatch, but there is no way to tell in advance if it will be a blue chicken. Fortunately, there is another way to get a blue chicken.
When you talk to Marnie to purchase a chicken, you will be prompted to choose a coop. At the top of the screen, you will see a message saying, "Choose a Coop for your new [color] Chicken." Most of the time, this color will be either white or brown. On occasion though, the message will ask you to choose a coop for your new blue chicken.
This method can be used to ensure that you will get a blue chicken. When the message displays any other color besides blue, exit out of the screen. Speak to Marnie again and purchase a chicken. The color will change at random, but eventually, you will be prompted to choose a coop for a blue chicken. Once you see this message, choose your coop. Your new blue chick will appear in your new coop!
Chicks, whether they're white, brown, or blue, will mature into an adult chicken that can lay eggs on the third day after hatching or being purchased, so long as you are feeding them.
