Stardew Valley’s Mysterious Witch Explained

There’s no doubting Stardew Valley’s impact on the gaming industry, as many farming simulators have since taken inspiration from it, as it once took inspiration from Harvest Moon. One thing that makes the game stand out to this day is its many mysteries and secrets like Stardew Valley’s Ancient Doll.

Stardew Valley’s Witch is just as mysterious, both in how she appears in the game, the impact she leaves behind, and events tied to her. Overall, the Witch is hard to pin down exactly, with not too many players ever having a “Witch Event,” but there are a few details, theories, and more related to her.

Stardew Valley “Witch Events”

Like many characters in Stardew Valley, she has a slight background. She is the ex-wife of Rasmodius the Wizard, as he reveals that he was previously married but his ex-wife now flies around the countryside cursing people. This sets her up for her appearances on a player’s farm.

Indeed, the Witch will visit a Stardew Valley player’s farm from time to time, but it’s rare, hardly explained, and sometimes unverifiable. What is known is that she’ll cast spells on certain buildings to produce certain effects; for example, she’ll turn an egg into a Void Egg (or just leave one) if a spell is cast on a chicken coop or turn slimes inside a slime hutch into a black color. Some players have reported spells hitting other places, like the farmhouse, but to no effect.

Many believe her appearances may be tied to Stardew Valley’s Rarecrows, though many sightings are inconsistent in how long after they were placed she appeared, how many were used, and the like. Sometimes she has appeared without a Rarecrow, while others think she may be connected to Heart Events in Stardew Valley.

Nonetheless, while such things are usually easily found within game files, it’s nice to know that there is still some mystery in video games. Not knowing particularly how to trigger a Witch event makes them that much more interesting, but they are not the only things related to the character.

Stardew Valley: Witch-Related Quests and Locations

While not nearly as mysterious as her character and her events, there are a couple of quests related to her. After completing the Community Center bundles or the Joja Community Development form, the wizard will task players with getting a Dark Talisman. After finding it, players can teleport to the Witch’s Swamp, where players will have to complete the quest Goblin Problem to get past her henchman and into her hut.

Recovering the Magic Ink there will unlock Wizard buildings for Stardew Valley, but there’s more to her hut too. There are three notable shrines, as well as a teleportation rune on the ground. This rune will take players to the Wizard’s Tower but not back, at least until they gain 4 hearts of friendship with the Wizard. Then, they can go back and forth at any time

.

Overall, there’s a lot that is as-of-yet undiscovered about the Witch, but with the spooky season coming up, it’s anyone’s guess if and how Stardew Valley does something special for her.

Stardew Valley is out now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
