Starfield has had mixed reviews so far, as Bethesda’s first new universe in 25 years takes gamers into a world of alien wildlife, space dogfights and some – let’s face it – quite boring planets.
After officially launching yesterday, Starfield had over a million players at the same time across all platforms on day one, and is only likely to become more popular over the coming days.
So, if you’re keen to get around faster and leave some of those sterile, rocky wastelands behind you, the Boost Pack will help you do just that – plus you can learn to damage enemies’ packs in combat, too.
Some gamers feel the pack helps make up for the lack of land-based vehicles, and feels a bit like having your own mini-spaceship.
Trouble is, many players are having trouble finding where to get the Starfield Boost Pack.
Here’s what you need to know.
How to get Starfield Boost Pack
First of all, you need to reach Level 2, although that won’t take too long.
Next, you need to spend a skill point on the Boost Pack Training Skill and unlock it in the Skill Tree.
You then need to get a backpack that has boosters equipped – as an example, in an early quest you’ll be given the Constellation Pack when you reach The Lodge in Jemison.
You can boost at any time by pressing the jump button (Y on Xbox consoles, or the space bar on PC) while in mid-air.
This powers up the boost pack thrusters – but remember, this only works once you’ve spent a skill point and are equipped with an appropriate backpack.

There are also upgrades in the Skill Tree which let you boost for longer and use less fuel.
If you unlock enough skill tiers, you can hover, which is very useful in combat.
What Boost Packs are there?
There are four types of Boost Packs in Starfield, as well as dozens of individual models:
- Basic Boost Pack
- Power Boost Pack – offers fewer but more powerful thrusts
- Skip-Velocity Boost Pack – more but weaker thrusts
- Balanced Boost Pack – a mix of the previous two
Planets with lower gravity allow you to move more quickly, so the Boost Pack is more effective there and feels more like flying.
