Stray Delayed Into 2022

Stray, the indie game where you play as a cat on an alien planet, has been delayed into 2022.

The delay was announced as part of a new PlayStation Blog post about the game. When Stray was originally revealed during Sony's PS5 reveal stream, it was announced as having a 2021 release date, but the new trailer confirms that it is coming in "Early 2022".

Regarding the delay, BlueTwelve Studio said, "The whole team is working full speed to deliver the most polished experience possible, and we look forward to seeing players explore our world early next year".

Beyond revealing that the game has been delayed, the PlayStation Blog post also revealed some new details about gameplay, as well as showing off a detailed gameplay walkthrough.

The gameplay video shows the cat wandering around the futuristic cityscape, and reveals that the game is more puzzle and platform-oriented. The cat can contextually jump between obstacles and is shown picking up items to solve puzzles. The cat is seen teaming up with a drone named B-12 to interact with technology and some of the robotic inhabitants of the world.

Although most of the gameplay seems to be focused on platforming and puzzles, the footage also teases more action-packed segments, such as a chase sequence with small aliens, as well as showing B-12 using weapons.

One of the highlights of the gameplay reveal is the focus on unique interactions and portraying the cat as realistically as possible. Beyond just moving around the environment, the player is able to perform contextual interactions such as drinking milk, scratching a sofa, and nuzzling against a character's legs.

As BlueTwelve Studios puts it, "The cat is definitely the star of the show in the game though, and it was important for us to show a glimpse of all the playful interactions that he can have with his environment. Some of them are useful and will help solve puzzles as you progress, and some are just here because cats will be cats — and as most cat owners know painfully well, no sofa can be left unscratched."
