Suda51 Would Love To Make A Deadpool Game For Marvel

During a livestream launch event for No More Heroes 3 with IGN Japan this past weekend, indie director Suda51 mentioned that he'd love to get a chance at directing a Deadpool game for Marvel. In discussing what was next for him and his team at Grasshopper Manufacture, Suda said, "I'd also love to work with Marvel on a Shatterstar or Deadpool game."

While it initially sounds like something outside of the scope for Suda51, Deadpool is probably the perfect character for him to tackle. Deadpool is not only crass and violent, but routinely breaks the fourth wall in the name of humor. Most of Suda51's games play around with the idea of what a videogame is even supposed to be, let alone not taking things too seriously. It really could be a match made in heaven.

As for titles that aren't licensed IPs, Grasshopper isn't slowing down just yet. The No More Heroes series may be done and dusted, but it seems Suda51 is keeping busy with entirely new projects. "The broad answer is we already have a lot of products that are in development and over the next 10 years we have three original IPs that we're working on and we have already planned out," he explained.

There is also still the possibility of his crossover game with director Swery65 titled Hotel Barcelona . Announced a few years ago, the two have regularly been in contact during the COVID-19 pandemic and are looking at ways to make the game work. "It really depends on the timing, since it gets heavily influenced on the work I’m doing at that period," Suda51 said in a Reddit AMA a few months back.

I don't know how likely Disney is to invest in a title from Suda51, but it seems like the hosue of mouse wants to get back into videogames. With the success of titles like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Marvel's Spider-Man, there is clearly a desire to digital adaptations of Disney's brands. Why not let an indie auteur get a crack at a character that is tailor made for the world of gaming?
