Fans of the Super Mario Bros. franchise will soon be able to add some manga to their collection as the release date for the English version of the Super Mario Bros. Manga Mania has now been confirmed as December 8, 2020.

Similar to the LEGO Super Mario sets, which have already been a major success for Nintendo, the manga series is a celebration of the franchise history. Published by Viz Media, the collection was announced back in March and will include a selected amount of stories from the manga, which currently has over 55 volumes. Though the product page has stated a release date since its announcement, it was never confirmed by Viz Media until today.

Super Mario Bros Manga Mania is a retelling of various Super Mario games including Super Mario WorldSuper Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, and Super Mario Odyssey, though don’t expect it to cover the hundreds of hidden worlds in the original Super Mario Bros. The manga series has covered the games since its launch in Japan in 2014 in several volumes. The English release will retail for $9.99 USD when released.

In addition to the manga, the Super Mario franchise is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and Nintendo has celebrated the occasion in several ways with fans. On top of releasing classic board games themed after the franchise, Nintendo also partnered up with peripheral manufacturers HORI and PowerA. Both companies will be releasing Mario-themed controllers for the Nintendo Switch in early September with HORI focusing on a smaller wired controller and PowerA releasing a wireless pro controller. Both controllers will have designs based on the Mario Franchise.

Recently, due to a leak of assets online, many unique facets of history have been discovered about the franchise. Along with alternate sprite designs for classic characters, enemies, and items, it was discovered that the Nintendo 64 classic Super Mario 64 only had a development time of less than 2 years, drastically different from the modern  games today. This is especially impressive as the game was not only the first 3D entry for the franchise, but the first 3D game from Nintendo as well.

In the meantime, Nintendo’s official Twitter has sparked rumors of a possible Super Mario Sunshine remake by tweeting a new image of Mario enjoying a day at the beach. This is the second time this year the Twitter account has done this which is only fueling rumors of the remake that have been making the rounds since the beginning of the year. Though nothing official has been announced, many believe that a 3D Mario Collection may be on the way to the Switch involving Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.

Super Mario Bros. Manga Mania launches on December 8, 2020.
