Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Modder Adds In Frieza from Dragon Ball Z

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has one of the largest rosters in gaming, with many different characters and franchises represented. Despite this, some of the most heavily requested characters for the series, sarcastically or not, are from media properties outside of video games. This includes anime series, like the ever-popular Dragon Ball franchise. Despite the fact that the director Masahiro Sakurai acknowledges that Goku has no chance appearing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there are some fans who still want Dragon Ball characters to appear. This includes modders, with one deciding to mod in one of Dragon Ball Z's iconic villains, Frieza, into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Frieza is the galactic emperor of the anime series and one of the most famous villains from Dragon Ball Z. The character was so popular, that even after his death, he would be brought back with his own cinematic film, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'. This movie also introduced a brand-new form for him, Golden Frieza, that turns his body gold and gives him a power boost. These points made him one of the perfect characters to mod into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

This mod was created by Demonslayerx8, or DSX8 for short. He has contributed several mods to the game previously, such as when he was commissioned to put Akali from League of Legends into Smash Ultimate. His Frieza mod has the tyrant's model from Jump Force being modded over the recently added Kazuya, the demonic fighter from the Tekken series.

As seen in the video, Frieza has been modded to use the moveset and animations of Kazuya. The Golden Freiza form takes the place of Kazuya's Demon form during the character's Final Smash. The mod also comes with the character's voice clips, taken from other Dragon Ball games like Fighterz. Kazuya fits Freiza quite well, due to their fighting ability and lasers. Other fans commented on the possibility of having Frieza over Mewtwo, due to their similar psychic abilities, but DSX8 denied the possibility, due to their very different builds and physique.

According to DSX8, the mod can only be put over the shirtless costumes of Kazuya, meaning that he would be replacing one of four costumes that Kazuya has. The video also showcases a separate Goku mod that can be downloaded, with him replacing Ryu from Street Fighter. Mods like these show that despite some characters having next to no chance of appearing, they are still beloved characters people would love to play as in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Nintendo Switch.
