Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for January 5th, 2022. In today’s article, we have a few new releases to check out. Nothing super-exciting, but nothing terrible either. There are summaries of each game for you to read and consider, as ever. We also have the lists of new and expiring sales. Not a whole lot in the former, but the latter is rather hefty and will require some careful examination. That’s about it. I was hoping to have a review ready but I need to spend a little more time with the game in question, so that will come on Friday, perhaps. Let’s get to what we’ve got!
New Releases
Breakneck City ($9.99)
We see plenty of 2D beat-em-up throwbacks these days, and that is certainly where the bulk of the genre’s heavy-hitters can be found. But there was a brief period where developers tried to make the genre work in chunky polygons, where games like Die Hard Arcade and Fighting Force did their best to keep the lights on for the suddenly out-of-fashion brawler. Breakneck City seems to pay homage to that era, with a highly stylized look and lots of fun interactions with the environments. If that sounds cool to you, check this one out.
Arcadia Fallen ($24.99)
This is a choice-heavy visual novel adventure where you play as an apprentice alchemist who finds themselves bound against their will with a troublesome spirit. Pulled into the middle of a deadly conflict, they have to try to survive and perhaps save the world while they’re at it. You won’t have to go it alone, as you’ll soon meet up with an assortment of quirky heroes. Yes, you can eventually smooch some of them if you play your cards right. You are not required to smooch them. But you can. There are a lot of decisions to make in this one, so you’ll have plenty of chances to shape the story. Pretty good.
McDROID ($9.99)
Hunh, that UI sure is something. At any rate, this is a tower defense game with some farming and action elements to spice things up. It was released a while ago on other platforms and the reviews were quite middling. The game description doesn’t go into much detail, but it does offer up some praise from various influencers. If you like tower defense games but want something a little different, this may be worth further investigation.

Well, that’s… that’s a very small list of new sales. I think Detective Di is pretty decent. No strong feelings about the others. The outbox is the bigger issue today, however. Sales from Circle Entertainment, Onion Games, and others are coming to a close very soon. Mon Amour may never be this cheap again. Other cool games include Rabi-Ribi, Blasphemous, and Super Hydorah. Lots of good stuff in there that may not immediately spring to mind, so make sure you check that list.
