Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for December 27th, 2021. Did everyone have a nice holiday? I hope you had a good rest doing whatever it was you did. I had some tasty food and got quite a few new games, so all’s well that ends well in that regard. You might expect today to have not much going on, but we somehow have a handful of new releases and a fair number of sales to check out. Let’s get on that.
New Releases
My Universe – Interior Designer ($29.99)
The latest My Universe game focuses on the joys of renovation and redecoration. Talk to your clients to find out their needs, then renovate their houses to suit their tastes. Make them happy and you’ll build your fame and fortune. As you play, you’ll unlock all kinds of new goodies that will help you make even more gorgeous layouts. Aside from decorating the spaces of your clients, you can also put your own house together. Decorate it your way, as the only one you need to please is yourself. I reckon if you have Animal Crossing you’re probably better off shelling out for the Happy Home Paradise DLC, but that’s just my take.
Unstrong: Space Calamity ($4.99)
A five-dollar 3D platformer, you say? This is a game about a mad scientist girl who is trying to bring back her destroyed world. You’ll mostly be messing around in space with all sorts of gravity chicanery and such. Lots of things to collect, and lots of places to explore. Keep the price in mind and you might find this scratches an itch well enough.
Menseki: Area Maze Puzzles ($5.00)
This is a bunch of math problems, and there are no two ways about it. Specifically, the type of math problem where you have the measurements for some parts of a shape and need to use them to deduct the measurements for the other parts. This is from the same developer that did the similarly-titled Area Maze for mobile, and it features all of the same puzzles. If you want to get a taste of what this has in store for you, that game is free on the App Store, presumably with ad support of some sort.
Cold Silence ($4.99)
A three-color horror-themed platformer, Cold Silence aims to scare you without using things that go bump in the night. Explore the game’s world, discover secrets, and fight deadly bosses. Certainly a different sort of five dollar Switch platformer. I haven’t seen many impressions of this game one way or the other, but what little I have found suggest this is neither the bee’s knees nor outright terrible.
Planet Quiz: Learn & Discover ($11.99)
It’s a quiz game loosely built around Earth-related questions. I suppose that’s almost everything, isn’t it? Up to four players can join in via local multiplayer, and that’s obviously going to be the way to go if you can swing it. There are four modes of play, seventeen different question categories, and multiple levels of difficulty. Seems fine for what it is, so it all comes down to how much you need another quiz game.
American Man ($9.99)
According to the game’s eShop description, this game follows the story of a one-man army named American Man as he battles the evil forces of foreign countries after their genetic experiments on animals create dangerous beast soldiers. Beyond the hilarious premise, this appears to be a very plain side-scrolling run-and-gun. You play as a bare-chested commando and blast through an entire kingdom of animals, many of whom are sporting artillery of their own. Ten bucks feels like a lot for something that probably only has limited value as a gag.
Christmas Racing ($0.99)
Gametry checks off all of the shovelware boxes with this release. It’s cheap enough that people might not think too hard before buying, it ties in with a holiday in the most superficial way possible, and it looks very much like a template flip. A dollar is such a small amount of money that it’s hard to say even the poorest of efforts isn’t worth the price, but I’ll tell what this definitely isn’t worth: your time.
