Tekken 7 And Soulcalibur 6 Producer Leaving Bandai Namco

On Twitter this morning, Tekken 7 and Soulcalibur 6 producer Motohiro Okubo announced he would be leaving Bandai Namco today after having worked at the company for 25 years. Setting his sights on a game company located in Shibuya, he posted a message of gratitude for his time at the company and wanted to thank fans for making the most recent installments in both fighting games series a big success. Inadvertently, he also confirmed that both titles have shipped a combined nine million total units.

While Okubo's most well-known games are the aforementioned fighters, he was also a producer on Nintendo's quirky Pac-Man 99. As well as working behind the scenes to create these experiences, Okubo was active in the fighting game community and would often appear at tournaments to provide commentary. He was completely fluent in English, so it helped establish a connection with non-Japanese fans.

It's surprisingly difficult to find information about his past at Bandai Namco, but it certainly is sad to hear that he'll be leaving the company. Fans have praised his work on re-establishing the Soulcalibur series after the lackluster Soulcalibur 5 on PS3 and Xbox 360 and Tekken 7 has gone on to become the most popular entry in its respective series. Okubo certainly contributed to that success.

Wherever his journey takes him, it's likely that Okubo will continue to rise to prominence. We wish him the best of luck and are excited to hear what projects he'll be involved with in the future.
