Chlorophyte is a crucial Terraria ore that spawns at the beginning of Hardmode in the Underground Jungle. It spreads throughout Mud tiles at a steady rate during Hardmode, which means it does become easier to find once you've spent a bit of time letting the world tick over.

Chlorophyte is used to smelt Chlorophyte Bars, which are in turn used to craft endgame Hardmode bars, like Spectre Bars and Shroomite Bars. You'll need plenty of Chlorophyte to craft everything you want, but luckily for you, it does literally grow underground. Here's how to get it.
How To Mine Chlorophyte
Chlorophyte spawns in Mud Blocks adjacent to Jungle Grass when Hardmode starts. This is most common in the Underground Jungle, an area that does become much more dangerous in Hardmode. It only spawns in small amounts, but it will spread over time.
Tips for mining Chlorophyte:
- Spelunker Potions are your best friend when it comes to mining Chlorophyte. They will highlight all Ore, you just need to learn what Chlorophyte looks like. Spelunker Potions are crafted with Bottled Water, Blinkroot, Moonglow, and Gold Ore.
- Do not mine all the Chlorophyte at once. Smaller chunks should be left to spread over time. The next time you come back to the Jungle, there'll be more for you to mine.
What Can Break Chlorophyte?
You need a pickaxe or drill with at least 200 percent Pickaxe Power. The earliest pickaxes you can get that allow you to mine Chlorophyte are the Pickaxe Axe and Drax.
Both of these require Hallowed Bars (dropped by the Mechanical Bosses) as well as Soul of Fright, Soul of Might, and Soul of Sight. That means you need to defeat all three of the Mechanical Bosses before you can mine Chlorophyte. It's an essential part of the Boss progression in Terraria.
What Does Chlorophyte Look Like?
Chlorophyte is light green in color, and it emits a faint green light.

How To Farm Chlorophyte
Chlorophyte can actually be farmed. The Chlorophyte will continue to spread through Mud blocks when left on its own. It needs no light, only more mud blocks to grow into.
This means you can place Chlorophyte Ore directly into large areas of mud, leave it for a while, and return to a much larger group of Ore.
Once you've got the early set of Chlorophyte for the essentials, you can set up a Chlorophyte farm closer to home. You need a large area of mud blocks and some ore to place down. Place a single piece of ore in the center of a mud square.
Tips for a Chlorophyte farm:
- The ideal spot for a Chlorophyte farm is in the Cavern layer. It grows better in this deeper layer.
- Protect the farm from Corruption, Crimson, and Hallow, as these will convert mud blocks.
- Farms should be spread apart, as there are limits to how much Chlorophyte can grow in any one area. Build some mud blocks in a 7×7 square, and then place them apart from each other by at least 40 blocks. This will increase the growth rate.
How Fast Does Chlorophyte Grow?
The exact numbers behind Chlorophyte growth are a bit vague. In the farm layout mentioned above, you might get decent growth over the course of a single Terraria day. If your farm is not growing the amount of Chlorophyte you expected, it's probably because you have placed the separate mud blocks too close together. Try spacing them out more.
What To Craft With Chlorophyte
Chlorophyte is smelted into Chlorophyte Bars at either an Adamantite Forge or Titanium Forge.
The bars are then turned into a variety of different items. You should craft Chlorophyte Armor as a priority. It's a mild upgrade on the Hallowed Armor (more on that in a moment) and can be customized to fit various different Hardmode builds.
Is it worth crafting Chlorophyte tools? Well, both the Chlorophyte Pickaxe and Drill are barely upgrades on the Pickaxe or Drax, offering the same power with an extra block of reach. Not worth the upgrade considering how difficult Chlorophyte is to obtain after defeating the Mechanical bosses.
Important to remember:
- You should save A LOT of the Chlorophyte you mine to seed Chlorophyte farms.
- You need 40 Chlorophyte bars to craft the Drill Containment Unit.
- Keep some Chlorophyte aside to save for Turtle Armor.
Is Chlorophyte Better Than Hallowed Armor?
Chlorophyte Armor is a small upgrade on Hallowed Armor. It provides a better base defense and is slanted toward ranged and magic damage output thanks to its different headpieces.
What Armor Do You Get After Chlorophyte Armor?
Save some Chlorophyte for Turtle Armor. This armor is a solid upgrade on Chlorophyte Armor and can later be turned into Beetle Armor. The Turtle armor comes with a great Thorns effect, which reflects damage back at the attacker. It's an essential part of a successful melee build.
A full armor set provides:
- 15 percent damage reduction (as of Terraria 1.4)
- 14 percent melee damage increase
- 12 percent melee critical strike chance
- This armor will also pull aggro towards you, not so important during singleplayer, but can be useful during co-op play
