The Best Superhero Games to Play Before Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Releases

Marvel’s Spider-Man felt like the Spidey game that fans have been waiting for. The city of New York was captured in such a way that anyone playing could feel like they were swinging through the streets as the titular hero himself, as the cliche goes. Complimenting this was the game’s impressive story and introduction of major Spider-Man villains.

It's presumably going to be a while until the next Marvel's Spider-Man entry comes to PS5. While fans are anxiously waiting for the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, there are a few games that they can get their hands on.

Marvel’s Avengers is a solid place to start for fans trying to hold themselves over until Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases. While it had a bit of a rough start in September 2020, it has come a long way. Many players have given the title mixed reviews, but it has developed into a promising game that continues to deliver content.

With the Operation: Black Panther – War for Wakanda DLC slated to release in August, and the Spider-Man DLC expected sometime this summer, there is already new content coming soon to help hold fans over. While it will not deliver identical gameplay to Marvel’s Spider-Man, it is a great choice in terms of superhero titles.

Another solid choice is Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Currently exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, it is the long-awaited third installment for the series. With a big roster of playable characters, fans can test out the powers of anyone from Black Panther to Loki.

While the game’s story is separate from the other two in the series, it still provides a similar style of gameplay. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3's synergy attacks also provide the potential for impressive combos and graphics. With the story focused on Thanos and the Black Order, players will need all the power they can get to defeat the Mad Titan.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales is one of the best options for fans of video games to play, but it is even better for anyone waiting for Spider-Man 2. While Peter Parker’s Spider-Man is pretty absent in this game, it provides space for fans to learn about Miles Morales as he becomes comfortable with his powers. The young Spider-Man has enjoyed increased popularity in comics and movies, so seeing him get some love in video games is great.

The gameplay is very reminiscent of the first Spider-Man on PS4, but it still feels like a title that can stand on its own two feet. The relationships that Miles builds and the way he embodies being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is part of what makes his character great. Being able to play as Miles as he develops into a hero also shows why Miles continues to be one of the most prominent Spideys right now.

As great as Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the other titles are, the Batman: Arkham series is arguably still the best when it comes to superhero games. Batman: Arkham Asylum set expectations for what fans would think of when it came to superhero games for over a decade. With the expansion of the Arkham-verse and a growing list of DC titles thanks to games like Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, there is even more Bat-inspired crime-fighting on the way.

The Batman: Arkham games are great for exploring the development of Batman’s character. From Arkham Asylum to Arkham Knight players can see how the world and characters change. Bruce Wayne might not be as polite or quippy as Spider-Man, but the Arkham series still tells a great story alongside some fantastic gameplay.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is available now on PS4 and PS5.
