The Biggest Gaming News For August 27, 2021

Rockstar Games

It’s not just any ole news Friday; it’s the Friday that TheGamer—and the games industry at large—wraps up another busy event week with the last day of Gamescom. While today may not have been quite as packed with showcases as Wednesday and Thursday, it’s still been an interesting mix of rumored titles and holiday heavy-hitters. For August 27, we’ve got the biggest beat on GTA 6 castings, Halo Infinite, and Dr Disrespect.

Rockstar’s Next Announcement May Or May Not Be GTA 6

As the day kicked off, you may or may not have caught wind of how a voice actor working with Rockstar may or may not have accidentally revealed news on GTA 6. We followed up with the actor, Dave Johnson, to see if he could confirm what the title was, but it sounds like Jackson himself doesn’t actually know. While he couldn’t confirm if the project was GTA 5 or 6, he did say whatever it was had a trailer on the horizon, and perhaps that’s at least something to get excited about.

Dr Disrespect Feels Disrespected

Last year, Dr Disrespect wound up banned from Twitch, and we still don’t know why. Folks never stopped speculating over the reason, but the streamer never actually confirmed what happened. Apparently, he does know, and he’s mentioned he plans on suing the platform. This week, Dr Disrespect elaborated on the situation a bit more, noting that he’s only making a quarter of what he once made on Twitch

Steam’s Refund Policy Blows For Small Indies

It’s been a while since Steam implemented its refund policy, but perhaps it’s time for the PC storefront to reevaluate what games qualify. Indie developer Emika Games published what most would consider a Steam success, sitting at 281 reviews that are “Very Positive” for its horror game Summer of ‘58. However, its score doesn’t matter—customers are buying and beating the experience in under two hours, so they’re still refunding. The situation has prompted the dev to leave the craft for an “indefinite time.”

343 Industries Is Working Hard On Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite has had a rough go of it, but perhaps it’s time we lay off and wait until the news is ready. Microsoft confirmed during Gamescom that the Xbox blockbuster would make its holiday release window in December, prompting fans to ask where gameplay footage of the campaign is at. 343 responded, needing a little more patience, and noted that the team is “focused on shutdown mode.”

Volition Isn’t Caving To Internet Mob

Saints Row developer Volition just revealed its reboot of the series during Gamescom, and some folks on the internet aren’t too happy about it. The YouTube trailer was ratio’d shortly after it was published with some complaints trying to take shots at the new entry for being “woke,” despite the series always maintaining those core themes. Volition says it’s “not backing down” in response to the mob of comments—and, honestly, good on them for staying the course.
