The Last of Us Fan Shares Amazing Anime Art For Both Games

Anime is hardly the first thing that would come to mind when thinking about The Last of Us, though that does not mean it could not work. In fact, one clever fan of The Last of Us has shown that it could look incredible if done correctly.

This is hardly the first time that fans of the franchise have gotten creative when it comes to their art style. Recently, a comic-style The Last of Us 2 image made the rounds, and while the look was very different from the game’s realistic approach, it still worked very well. Even more styles have been seen in hand-drawn pieces and paintings, and all are great in their own way. For anime fans, though, Caro-Oliveira’s work as memorable as it gets.

While this Last of Us fan art was originally made back in 2020, it has gained new popularity due to a Reddit post from Winged_Daedalus. Thanks to this repost, more eyes are on this art than ever before, and there is a lot to love about the fan’s work. There are 12 total pieces in the set, with five full images for the original game and seven for its controversial follow-up. Several different characters are highlighted, with the first image of the set depicting Ellie’s encounter with David.

The younger version of Ellie looks amazing in this piece, with the hair and outfit being spot-on. Despite anime-like features, such as some large eyes, the facial features still match Ellie’s fairly well. Her bow and the environment are both detailed, while the shading makes the anime-inspired look stand out clearly. Joel gets a few pieces to shine, with both his younger and older looks having a dedicated art piece. Both see him talking directly to Ellie, with the first being one of his lessons for her and the second being a flashback from the sequel. The character translates incredibly well to the anime style.

Yet another great piece captures The Last of Us 2’s most infamous scene, as Abby can be seen wielding a golf club. The line “you don’t get to rush this” is visible at the bottom of the screen, while Joel’s hair peaks out from the lower right corner. The look on Abby’s face is terrifying, and it is easy to imagine how the moment would look if a real anime adaptation were to ever happen. Nora can also be seen in the background, adding to the accuracy of the fan’s hard work.

With the artist also showing supporting characters like Lev, Tess, and Riley, there are plenty of iconic visuals that have been given an anime spin. While Winged_Daedalus does deserve credit for finding and sharing this underappreciated art, Caro-Oliveira should get far more praise for making it.

The Last of Us Remake is rumored to be in development.
