Sony announced a few days after The Last of Us Part 2’s launch that Naughty Dog’s action-adventure title had sold over 4 million units within 3 days, making it the biggest ever launch for a PS4 exclusive. As you would expect, that success has been reflected in the game’s digital sales as well.

As per a new report by tracking firm SuperData, The Last of Us Part 2 sold 2.8 million digital units throughout the month of June, which is the most digital units a PlayStation exclusive has sold in its launch month to date. It exceeds the digital sales of previous record-holders Marvel’s Spider-Man and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, both of which sold 2.2 million digital units in their launch month.

Meanwhile, the report also talks about Valorant, which saw its full launch last month. Riot Games’ competitive first person shooter saw higher player numbers and more revenue than the PC version of Apex Legends did at launch, though the report does note that when accounting for the latter’s console versions as well, it did see more revenue at launch. Valorant, meanwhile, also saw more revenue than Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Overall, digital games generated a revenue of $10.46 billion in June 2020, which is the second-highest ever total for a month, following the $10.54 billion in April of this year. June 2020’s numbers were up 3 per cent from May 2020, and up 9 per cent year-over-year. Though revenues in the console and PC markets fell, mobile games generated all-time high revenues.
