The Last Of Us’s Tommy Discusses HBO Show’s Scripts

The actor who plays Tommy in The Last Of Us had nothing but glowing things to say about the scripts he's read for the games' HBO adaptation.

The Last Of Us and its sequel have told one of the best stories in video game history. It only makes sense that someone would want to adapt that story for television, and HBO is in the process of doing that. Production on The Last Of Us TV show has begun and more details were recently revealed about its cast.

Most recently, the inclusion of Jeffrey Pierce in the show's cast was confirmed. Pierce voiced Tommy in both games, but will not reprise the role for the show. Pierce will instead play Perry, a rebel in a quarantine zone. Pierce has had a look at some of the show's scripts though, and it sounds like there's a lot for Last Of Us fans to get excited about.

Pierce said on the All The Films We Judged Before podcast that what he has seen of the scripts so far has been breathtaking. “I think they are the best scripts I’ve ever seen in terms of the level of detail, the level of texture, the capturing of the essence of Joel and Ellie and all of the other characters. It is going to be phenomenal,” Pierce said.

“Every sort of piece of tone and texture of the game exists in the writing and then it’s 100 times more because you get to do so much more,” Pierce added. That backs up the revelation from the show's creators that HBO's The Last Of Us will follow the events of the games. However, there will be added surprises for those who already know how the story is going to pan out.

Photos from the set of the show emerged online this week, showing an Alberta street disguised as Austin, Texas. The backdrop for the start of the first game is Austin, Joel's hometown where he resides with Tommy and his daughter Sarah. If that scene is going to be how the rest of the world is introduced to The Last Of Us, then it's going to be an emotional start.
