The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Has Hidden Dialogue

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild marked a watershed moment not just for The Legend of Zelda series and Nintendo, but for the open-world RPG genre as a whole. The game is immensely rich in content, so much so that players in 2021 are still uncovering secrets about the title years after its initial release. One of the latest discoveries making headlines is a few pieces of extra dialogue triggered by specific circumstances.

Officially releasing in March of 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the long-running franchise's best-selling entry to date. Nintendo is setting a huge sales goal for itself in 2022 with a target of 250 million units, and is likely banking on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 to reach it, although fans keep finding new content in the original.

As many veterans of BOTW will know, the first quest given after leaving the initial Great Plateau area is to find Impa in Kakariko Village. The Sheikah chief of the village, Impa informs Link that the four Divine Beasts have become infected by Calamity Ganon while he was in stasis, which then grants access to the Free the Divine Beasts main quest. However, one Reddit user has discovered some extra hidden dialogue, but only if you don't speak to her…at first. Being an open-world sandbox, players can go just about anywhere in Breath of the Wild. If Link tries to approach one of the Divine Beasts like Vah Ruta, Zelda will telepathically inform Link of their corrupted state.

In addition to the otherwise-unheard bit of dialogue from Princess Zelda, Impa will have a new line to say, which is something along the lines of "well, I GUESS you didn't need my help." Those aren't the only bits of hidden dialogue, however. Should players decide to skip running into the Zora Prince Sidon when going to Zora's Domain, it will trigger a new set of dialogue for the prince once Link approaches King Dorephan. Sidon is initially dismissive of the Hero of Time and states he'll escort Link out, but quickly changes his tune once he realizes he is a Hylian.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is packed with hidden details and secrets still being discovered, but Zelda fans are also discovering plenty of secrets in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. Things like the origins of names, the secrets of stools, a hidden Tingle, and more. There's even a form of "secret" dialogue triggered when asking the Kikwi hermit Yerbal about Farore's Flame, and a Parella hidden near Lake Floria, although they aren't as significant as Breath of the Wild's.

The fact that gamers are still discovering new things about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a testament to just how well-made of a game it is. Hopefully BOTW 2 can not only match, but surpass the original game's absolutely immense amount of content.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now for Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
