The Lord of The Rings: Gollum is one of the more intriguing upcoming games. Licensed video games can be hit or miss. The Batman: Arkham games, for example, were bonafide success stories while E.T. on the Atari is considered perhaps the worst video game ever. When The Lord of The Rings: Gollum was first revealed last year, the gaming community and lovers of the J.R.R epic were collectively interested, and now more details on the game have emerged.

Lord of the Rings: Gollum will apparently be a Prince of Persia-like stealth-action using a branching narrative. While The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was initially unveiled only as a PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X game, it is now confirmed to be coming to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One as well.

The most recent trailer of Lord of the Rings: Gollum came with new details about the gameplay and story. Players will control Smeagol/Gollum after he loses the One Ring to Bilbo Baggins. After he goes to Mordor, is torturered, and reveals the location of the ring, he sets out on his journey to recover it. There will also be moments when players can choose between a Smeagol or a Gollum decision, and he will apparently have allies of some sort in this journey.

The stealth elements of the Lord of the Rings: Gollum are certainly intriguing. More information will eventually present itself, but the explanations so far from developer Daedelic point to the idea this will be a mostly non-combat game. Players will be able to enter new areas that are relatively restricted, but with more sneaking and progressing, those areas open up.

It is certainly exciting for Switch owners, or those who are unsure of when they will upgrade their PS4/Xbox One to PS5/Xbox Series X, that Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be available to them. It’s always a bummer to get excited about a game announcement, with trailers and new information, only to realize that it cannot be enjoyed on the current platform.

Gollum’s story will start in approximately in the year 2463 within the Lord of the Rings universe, and now so many more fans will have the opportunity to enjoy the narrative. It seems like a smart move from the developer to open up the game to a wider audience, as that almost always results in more sales.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is coming to Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, PS4 and Xbox One in 2021.
