It wouldn't be a Matrix sequel without a suffix that began with the letter R. The tradition is continuing in 2021 with Resurrections, marking the resurrection of the series. Fitting, aye?
The Matrix 4 is slated for release in December 22 and it will be playing in both theaters and HBO Max – what that means internationally isn't clear. It stars Cyberpunk 2077 and John Wick's Keanu Reeves as well as Daredevil and Jessica Jones' Carrie-Anne Moss.

At CinemaCon 2021, Warner Bros. announced not only the name 'Resurrections,' but it also confirmed that it is being written and directed by returning Lana Wachowski, with new footage also being shared.
The trailer hasn't been released publicly yet but TheHollywoodReporter gave a breakdown on what it contains. It begins with Thomas Anderson (Reeves) in therapy, talking to this therapist (Neil Patrick Harris) about dreams that weren't "just dreams."
Following this, he bumps into Moss at a cafe. Some time goes by before he meets another character played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen who appears to be taking the role that Morpheus played, albeit not literally. It's a new character.
He hands him a red pill and voila, powers are unleashed and the world around him reveals its true nature. TheHollywoodReporter likens this montage to Neo's original, culminating in his character looking in the mirror to see an older version of himself. He even has new powers like being able to control missiles through telekenisis.
Why exactly Reeves is back in the Matrix, dazed and confused, not aware of its true nature, and why he has a new name are all questions that we'll have to wait a while to find the answers to.
