A game that lets players build a village and community doesn't sound all that groundbreaking, but The Wandering Village is putting a unique twist on it. The Xbox reveal trailer below shows off a bit of the story and a few snippets of gameplay, but the big hook is that the village that players are building is on top of a giant creature. While this might seem like a safe place to settle, players won't be completely safe from the dangers that lurk below, and they must constantly work towards growing their village and surviving these threats.
The reveal trailer was short, so it doesn't give a ton of details on The Wandering Village, but players can find more about it on the various developer diaries that have been released for the game. For example, players can learn about how players will interact with the giant creature known as an Onbu in order to form a symbiotic relationship.

As the trailer shows, the world was overtaken by poisonous fungus spores, and the player controls a group of refugees that were driven out of their home. In their moment of desperation, they met the Onbu, a giant creature capable of sustaining life on its back. It can't survive in the toxic wastes on its own, though, so players will need to protect it while it protects them. The end of the trailer shows that the stakes are very real, as the Onbu happens to stumble across another Onbu, this one dead and decaying as a result of the spores.
While the game has been known about by PC players for some time, this reveal trailer shows that it is also coming to Xbox. Unfortunately, there's no word on whether or not there will be PlayStation or Switch versions of the game. Until such word comes, players should assume that this title will be exclusive to PC and Xbox, and plan on playing the game on one of those platforms when it releases. On that note, the game is scheduled to release sometime before the end of 2021, but an exact date has not yet been revealed.
If working together with the Onbu to forge a path through this toxic waste sounds like a good time, be sure to keep an eye on The Wandering Village and its developer, Stray Fawn Studios. More information about the game will come to light as it gets closer to release, and it won't be long before players can try their hand at it themselves. Alternatively, check out Nintendo's Indie World Showcase on August 11th.
The Wandering Village is in development for PC and Xbox.
