This Week In Modding: Fallout 4 Gets Remastered, Mass Effect Gets Gay, And More

While we didn’t have the NexusMods drama of last week, that doesn’t mean it’s been a quiet few days in the modding scene. Modding classics, Mass Effect and Fallout 4, return to the news once again, and Cyberpunk 2077 even makes a cameo just in time for its latest update.

Here are all the biggest stories from the modding community this week.

Fallout 4 Gets An Unofficial Remaster

Think Fallout 4 needs a facelift? You’re certainly not alone. But as we approach six years since its launch, a few texture mods might not cut it anymore… so how about 205?

Modder and YouTuber Ded String shared the monstrously long list of mods used to recreate Fallout 4. The final result is incredible, barely recognisable, and amazingly impressive, when you consider how many mods have to be working together, not conflicting with one another.

Considering we’re yet to get a Fallout 3 or (please) Fallout: New Vegas remaster, this is likely your best bet for an improved Fallout 4 for years to come.

Bloodborne Is Made Even More Terrifying

I truly hope I’m not alone in thinking that Bloodborne is terrifying enough as it is, because apparently someone wanted it to be even more frightening. If you’re feeling brave, Garden of Eyes has created a first-person mod, bringing you even closer to the action.

Walking through the streets can almost seem tranquil, but that quickly changes when you get a look at the gameplay. Now, the monstrous enemies are charging towards you. Don’t get me wrong, this is impressive stuff considering all the animations were made to work in this completely new perspective, but I think I’ll pass…

Deck Shepard’s Cabin Out With War Trophies

We get it, there’s only so many playthroughs of Mass Effect you can do before you know the inside of the Normandy like the back of your hand. As we revisit the story of Commander Shepard with the Legendary Edition, many of us have already reached that point. So why not fix that by adding a whole bunch of loot to your quarters?

The Collectors Cabin mod adds a bunch of story-based trophies, including a picture of Thane, a krogan statue, and a breeding tank. By the end of the narrative, Shepard will barely be able to move around their quarters, but it still looks perfectly lore-friendly, adding a bunch of easter eggs from your journey.

More Queer Romances Restored In Mass Effect

We’re staying with Mass Effect again, as yet another queer romance has been restored to working order! With the release of Legendary Edition, modders discovered that the straight love interests actually have cut voice lines indicating they were planned to be bi or pan at one point in development. So of course, fans are working to restore them.

Jack and Miranda have already received their same-gender romance mods, and now Ashley and Kaidan are up. This latest mod makes it possible to pursue either of the first game’s human companions, regardless of Shepard’s gender. This means getting their gender-exclusive scenes too, such as the early game banter on the Citadel.

Cyberpunk Streetwear Gets Serious

Finally, Cyberpunk 2077 modding is back in the news! As anyone who’s played the game will know, you have to commit some absolute fashion atrocities to keep V safe during combat. More often than not, the optimal stat combination will not be the optimal aesthetics combination, and it looks rough.

But fear not, because the StreetStyle – Immersive Fashion System mod is here to save the day. This mod groups clothing items into four categories, which boost different stats. The idea is to give every stat a different aesthetic, so your optimal build actually looks coherent. The stat boosts also affect speech checks, which makes sense in the appearance-obsessed world of Night City.
