Kena: Bridge of Spirits Could Have “Additional Loops” for New Rot Sprites

Ember Lab’s Kena: Bridge of Spirits is one of the more intriguing titles announced for the PS5 last year (which is also coming to PS4 and PC). Its 3D animated art-style and South-East Asian influences set it apart from similar action-adventure titles while the story promises to be an emotional journey. But Kena’s adventures may continue past the initial game.

Speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine in their February 2021 issue, Ember Lab founders Mike and Josh Grier discussed the game’s aesthetics, movement and DualSense support. There’s also the Rot sprites who can assist in combat and puzzles. Interestingly enough, when it was suggested that the Rot could have their own spin-offs, Josh Grier said, “The loop we’ve established where you’re helping these spirits and each one has a story loop – that works really well as an episodic structure.”

“There’re definitely opportunities for additional spirits that we couldn’t get into this game that would have additional loops you could go on to open up in the game.” So while it doesn’t necessarily mean a sequel, spin-off or even an expansion, Kena: Bridge of Spirits could see more Rot sprites added post-launch. These could then have their own unique stories and quests.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is currently slated to release in March 2021 (at least according to Sony’s CES presentation, before it removed all the targeted release windows). Stay tuned for more details and gameplay footage in the coming months.
