Sony have announced Housemarque have joined PlayStation Studios, and leaked that Bluepoint Games shall also be joining the fold.

“We are so excited to finally join the PlayStation Studios family!” Co-founder and Managing Director of Housemarque Ilari Kuittinen exclaimed. “This gives our studio a clear future and a stable opportunity to continue delivering on gameplay centric approaches, while still experimenting with new methods of narrative delivery and pushing the boundaries of this modern artform.”

Along with expanding “the PlayStation family” into Helsinki’s growing industry hub and securing the legacy of the oldest game studio in Finland; fans can expect Housemarque to continue making the games they want do.

“Finally, what this means for our fans? We at Housemarque are gamers, and we have grown from the need to perfect and tinker with facets of games that we have found most fascinating. We are also not known for shying away from running our own course and trying out new combinations. With the backing of SIE and its family of studios supporting us, we can truly grow into our place in the industry and show what Housemarque can create with no limitations. We can’t wait to show everyone what will be in store in the upcoming years, and we hope to usher in more lasting memories and exhilarating titles for the next quarter century and beyond.”

While this would be the end of the story, Sony Interactive Entertainment may have let another acquisition slip. Nibellion, a Twitter account dedicated to gaming news, notes that PlayStation Japan’s Twitter account uploaded an image welcoming Bluepoint Games to PlayStation Studios.

Bluepoint Games have handled several remasters for PlayStation consoles; including Demon’s Souls (2020), Shadow of the Colossus (2018), Gravity Rush Remastered, and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. While they have done porting work for two non-PlayStation consoles, the majority of their work has involved PlayStation games.

This may mean Bluepoint Games are now the “official” PlayStation remaster studio, but original titles cannot be ruled out. We shall keep you informed as we learn more.
