Halo TV Series Loses Both Showrunners; Second Leaving End of First Season

Halo TV Series

The two showrunners for the Halo TV series are leaving the production; with one already gone, and the other leaving after the first season.

Variety reports that Kyle Killen was the first to leave of the two showrunners before production began. According to Variety sourced, he felt he was unable to offer full-time showrunner duties while the show was shooting in Budapest. As such, Steven Kane took over as the lead and sole showrunner.

While production for the first series is underway, Kane will only remain on board through the post-production process, and will not be returning if there is a second season. After being in Budapest for two years, he reportedly wished to return to the US for personal reasons.

Killen and Kane came aboard the project in June 2018 (when the show was first ordered by Showtime), and March 2019 respectively. Production of the nine episode series began in late 2019, but was halted due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent quarantine orders.

As previously reported, 55% to 60% of filming of the first season had been completed before being halted in March 2020. The show was also considered for Paramount+ in the months after, and ultimately decided as so.

The cast will include Pablo Schreiber (Master Chief), Natascha McElhone (Dr. Catherine Halsey), and Jen Taylor reprising her role as Cortana. The show will also star Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac, Kate Kennedy, Danny Sapani, Olive Gray, and Charlie Murphy will also star.

The Halo TV series will premiere Q1 2022 on Paramount+.

Halo Infinite has also had some rough production; with the game’s Director, Lead Producer, and Creative Director quitting 343 Industries during production.343 Industries had previously sated they had “work to do” with the game’s graphics, after some disliked them during the game’s gameplay premiere.

Halo Infinite launches holiday 2021 for Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
