Battle royale games are a dime a dozen nowadays, and so each new entry in the genre has to make a concerted effort to stand out from the pack. Spellbreak is unlike any other battle royale game released so far, with its focus on class-based gameplay and the use of magic in the place of firearms. It looks like an action-RPG spin on the battle royale genre, and that alone may be enough to make sure that it finds an audience.

Spellbreak will be free-to-play on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One on September 3.

Crystal Dynamics has been working hard on Marvel’s Avengers for years, and soon the studio’s hard work will finally pay off. The game features a single-player story campaign that sees various members of the titular Avengers team reuniting to fight against the threat of AIM, while also boasting a live-service style co-op mode with various missions that players can complete with friends. With Marvel’s Avengers being a live-service game, fans can expect Crystal Dynamics to support it for the long-term, with new playable characters and more content to be added for free in the months ahead. The game will also be getting ported to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with some enhancements, and there will even be a free upgrade available.

Some are worried that NBA 2K21 might not bring enough new content to the table or address fans’ concerns about microtransactions, but we’ll find out sooner rather than later. In the meantime, there is also a next-gen version of NBA 2K21 in the works as well, but those that plan to purchase it should expect to pay $70 instead of the standard $60.

The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games were once some of the most critically-acclaimed sports games on the market, but it has been dormant for years. After finding success with its Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon remasters, Activision has set its sights on remastering Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater next, releasing enhanced versions of the first two games in the series on modern platforms beginning September 4. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 should be a familiar experience to longtime fans of the franchise, but with vastly improved visuals, online multiplayer, and other new features to make it truly worthwhile. Here’s hoping it does justice to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater legacy, and convinces Activision to move forward with remakes of other games in the series.

The original Kingdoms of Amalur was well-received at the time of its release and has developed a cult following of dedicated fans. The original Crysis was known for its cutting-edge graphics and action-packed first-person shooter gameplay. Crysis Remastered will take what was once one of the world’s most visually-impressive games and improve the graphics even further so that it can stand toe to toe with the graphical juggernauts on modern gaming consoles. wwe-2k-battlegrounds-1v1-8046732

The abysmal critical reception for WWE 2K20 saw 2K Sports outright cancel WWE 2K21 to give Visual Concepts more time to develop WWE 2K22. But while a proper pro wrestling simulation game won’t be available this year, 2K Sports is still releasing a new WWE 2K game in the form of WWE 2K Battlegrounds. An arcadey fighting game, WWE 2K Battlegrounds features supernatural elements, ridiculous arenas, and a vast roster of playable characters made up of modern wrestlers and past stars. A real-time strategy game of sorts, 13 Sentinels blends a variety of genres while telling its story of 13 different playable characters. While it remains to be seen if the game will appeal to western audiences, it has proven to be quite popular with Japanese critics, earning a number of awards in the country. Super Smash Bros. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most critically-acclaimed video games ever made, and so it’s not exactly a surprise that video game developers are looking to emulate its success. One such game that is clearly inspired by Breath of the Wild is the upcoming Genshin Impact, which features a large open world for players to explore using a variety of different playable characters. Its similarities to Breath of the Wild can only help it, but it will be interesting to see how the game is ultimately able to make a name for itself and carve out its own identity.
