Bluepoint Games Claims That It Is A "Fully Independent Self-Funded Studio" Amidst Acquisition Rumours

Bluepoint Games has updated its Twitter bio to say that it is a fully independent self-funded studio", amidst rumours of Sony acquiring it.

Earlier in the week, Sony announced that it was purchasing Returnal developers Housemarque and released an image on Twitter to mark the announcement. Sony Japan did the same thing, but accidentally attached an image that seemed to reveal that Sony was also acquiring Bluepoint Games, the developers behind the PS5 remake of Demon's Souls.

Although that Tweet was quickly deleted and replaced with the Housemarque image, many people saw it and screenshotted it. The image itself includes the Bluepoint Games logo and adds Demon's Souls to the lineup of games, which seems unlikely to have been done accidentally.

That image also includes Returnal in the lineup, which means that it's likely that the announcement was planned to be made following the Housemarque reveal. Sony has since revealed it is acquiring Nixxes, but hasn't yet announced anything on Bluepoint Games.

Seemingly in response to the rumours of being acquired, Bluepoint Games has updated its Twitter bio to include the statement, "Bluepoint Game is a fully independent self-funded studio".

Bluepoint Games has also updated some of its job listings to reference its independence. The job listings now read, "Bluepoint Games is a completely independent and financially stable video game development company comprised of industry veterans who believe that hiring nothing but top talent means better products and a better environment, with less overhead and politics."

What's particularly interesting about these changes is the typo included in the updated text. The Twitter bio spells Bluepoint Games as "Bluepoint Game", which seems like an odd mistake for a studio to make about itself.

This has led many people to speculate that the Twitter bio change and job listing change are just covers for the eventual announcement of its acquisition by Sony. It only takes a few seconds to change these things after all, and Bluepoint might want to preserve the mystery for a little longer.

If that's not the case, then it seems like the Tweet from Sony Japan was a mistake after all, which seems like a bit of a stretch considering how official it looked.
