In these uncertain times, everyone could use a good distraction. Purchasing a new game is a good option, but what’s even better than that is a free new game and it just so happens Ubisoft is giving away one of its titles right now. Tom Clancy’s The Division is currently free to UPlay members on PC, but only for a limited time.

The official Ubisoft Uplay Twitter made the announcement today, alerting gamers of the small window to claim The Division for free. All anyone has to do is download the UPlay digital distribution service, which is also free. According to the link the company provided, the offer will last from today until Sept. 8 at 4:00 am, meaning those interested should act fast. After it is downloaded, it can be played anytime. Xbox players can also get in on the action since the title will also be a part of Free Games With Gold in September.

Coincidentally, The Division takes place in New York City in the aftermath of a deadly pandemic, which might not serve to distract from our real-life one too well. However, the fictional virus was a lot worse, leaving the city in a pretty bad place. Players take on the role of a Special Agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, helping rebuild the city and take down criminals who have taken advantage of the dire situation. This action role-playing game released back in 2016 and is set in an online-only open world. The reviews for The Division weren’t glowing, but many gamers genuinely enjoyed the experience.

Ubisoft apparently learned a lot from its first go at the series because a sequel, The Division 2, released a few years later and was much better received than its predecessor. Since its release in 2019, it has gone through a series of changes via patches and a massive rebalancing update. Those new to the series, once they’re done with the first game, might want to hop on over to the sequel afterward. It’s still going strong and receiving new content.

The series has garnered enough popularity to transition to other mediums. An upcoming movie based on The Divison is set to release some time in the future. Ubisoft Motion Pictures is working with Netflix to bring the film to the streaming service when it releases. There aren’t a lot of details on the adaption, and there haven’t been updates on its progress since the pandemic, but it was disclosed early on that Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain will both star in the film.

The Division is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
