Exclusive content has always been a significant factor in the success (or lack thereof) of any gaming console, and now, when all the major platform holders in the industry seem to be making great strides in the area, it’s become more important than ever. Sony, too, has seen significant leaps forward in this area over the last decade or so, and it seems they’re looking to improve even further with the PS5.

Speaking in an interview with Nikkei (via VGC), PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said that Sony has been “quietly but steadily investing” in major exclusive content for the PS5, and that the console is set to have more exclusives than ever before in PlayStation history.

“We have been quietly but steadily investing in high-quality games for PlayStation, and we will make sure that the PS5 generation will have more dedicated software than ever before,” Ryan said.

He also added that Sony is still open to further studio acquisitions. That’s something Ryan has said in the past as well, and recent rumours have suggested that PlayStation is on the verge of acquiring Demon’s Souls remake developer Bluepoint Games.

“We have repeatedly engaged in mergers and acquisitions, including Insomniac Games in the US,” he said. “We will not rule out that option in the future.”

A number of exclusives have already been announced for the PS5. Returnal launches in a week, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is releasing this June, and Horizon Forbidden West is also due out this year. God of War: Ragnarok and Gran Turismo 7 are also in development, while reports have claimed that a remake of The Last of Us is in the works at Naughty Dog, and that SIE Bend Studio is working on a new IP.

Meanwhile, several major third party exclusives are also in the pipeline, including the likes of Deathloop, GhostWire: Tokyo, Final Fantasy 16, and Forspoken.
