Valheim’s Final Hearth & Home Preview Is All About Weapon Tweaks

We’re just over a week away from Hearth & Home, Valhiem’s biggest update yet. As the name implies, most of the update is concerned with creating a comfy abode for your Viking, but it’ll also bring tweaks that affect all areas of Valheim’s sandbox.

One of those areas is combat. As Iron Gate reveals in the latest and final Hearth & Home preview, all weapons in Valheim will be rebalanced with the impending update, but some will receive more extensive changes than others.

First, the Battleaxe is getting reworked. Instead of the secondary attack being faster and having a greater chance to stagger opponents, the two-handed axe’s primary attack will have an inherent stagger chance while the secondary attack will have a knockback effect. The Battleaxe’s overall speed will be increased slightly with a shorter windup animation and it’ll have a chance to perform cleave damage too.

Second is the bow. Widely considered the most effective weapon in the game, even to the point of being overpowered, the bow will receive a considerable DPS nerf with Hearth & Home. Overall draw speed will be slower and you won’t be able to instantly draw and fire a shot Legolas style even with full bow skills. On the plus side, stamina degradation from holding your shot will be somewhat smaller, so it’ll be easier to line up your shots.

Previous teasers have shown how Valheim's food system will be overhauled with Hearth & Home to further differentiate foods by providing varying amounts of health and stamina. There will also be entirely new foods like Eyescream, Shocklate Smoothies, and wolf jerky.

Iron Gate promises there will be at least one more video before Hearth & Home arrives on September 16 and it’ll be “slightly different” from the usual previews.
