Valve Honours Late Dota 2 Caster Aldrin Paulo "Dunoo" Pangan With In-Game Voice Lines

Valve has honoured Filipino caster Aldrin Paulo "Dunoo" Pangan in its Fall 2021 update for Dota 2. Dunoo passed away last week due to Covid-19. The update will add some of his iconic lines as a caster to the game’s chat wheel.

“We were saddened to hear recently of the passing of Aldrin Paulo "Dunoo" Pangan, an icon of the Filipino casting community,” said Valve via the update announcement. “As a tribute, for the next season, the selected chat wheels feature some of his most iconic lines.”

As spotted by PC Gamer, Dunoo’s memorable lines will be added as rewards for Platinum tiered guilds. They are:

  • "Easiest money of my life!"
  • "Lakad Matataaaag! Normalin Normalin."
  • "The next level play!"

Dunoo’s lines became extremely popular among the Dota 2 community. Tons of memes were made, and Game Newell also used the “Lakad Matatag” line during his speech at The International 2018.

Elsewhere in the update notes, Valve has improved the Dota Plus Item Assistant with Neutral Item Suggestions and enhanced Quick Buy Recommendations. These features have been transferred over to Dota Plus’ core. Dota Plus members will also be eligible to purchase the Fall 2021 Seasonal Treasure with shards. The treasure features new sets for Vengeful Spirit, Abaddon, Nature's Prophet, Witch Doctor, Disruptor, Shadow Demon, Tusk, Legion Commander, and Dark Seer.

A new set of Dota Plus quests have also been introduced to help players earn shards for new relics and the seasonal treasure. Up to 115,200 shards are up for grabs over the course of the season.

In July, Valve announced that it had found a new location to host The International. The original plan was to hold it in Stockholm, Sweden, but the government did not accept esports into its sports federation, meaning that Dota 2 teams didn't qualify for COVID-9 visa exceptions.

"We are thrilled to announce The International 10 – Dota 2 Championships will be held this October in Bucharest, Romania, and the epic battle for the Aegis of Champions will fittingly unfold inside the country's largest stadium — Arena Nationala," announced Valve on the Dota 2 blog. The group stage for the tournament will run from October 7 to October 10, and the finals will run between October 12 and October 17.
