Viral Video Shows GameStop Employee Chasing Down Customer Trying to Steal a Game

GameStop has been the center of some pretty insane stuff recently, most of all the inflation of its stock prices by online investors. With that saga mostly in the rearview mirror by this point, it's likely many of the stories in the new GameStop Discord server are about smaller, but still strange incidents.

After all, it's worth remembering that there have been many reports of strange moments in GameStop before. Temper tantrums over games supposedly resulting in the destruction of a store, bizarre requests, etc. have all been reported. As often as not these are hard to verify as true, which is certainly the case for a recent TikTok video.

TikTok user blackacrombie, also known as The Real Frozone, put up a TikTok video detailing a robbery attempt at the GameStop he works at. The video begins with him describing the incident, starting with the claim that someone tried to rob the place. Not rob money from the register, but rather tried to steal a product from the store. One might assume the product in question was a PS5 or Xbox Series X, especially since GameStop is giving pro members first dibs on the consoles. But the truth is even stranger.

According to blackacrombie, the thief asked for Madden 22, then asked if he could hold the case. Upon taking it, the thief took off towards the door and blackacrombie ran after him. While it is implied by blackacrombie that the thief was unsuccessful, it is not explicitly stated. The video finishes with what looks like surveillance footage of the incident playing out mostly as blackacrombie said. It is, of course, possible that the entire thing was staged, including the ending footage, but crazier things have happened to TikTok stars.

Blackacrombie's footage does not usually revolve around GameStop, presumably because TikTok-worthy events do not usually occur there. Short of a police report, it might not be possible to determine whether there really was a robbery, but it seems like an odd thing to stage, especially at a place where blackacrombie works. And again, weirder things have happened, like a man who quit his job asking Logan Paul for work.

But again, it wouldn't be the first time an incident was staged at a GameStop, and the incomplete nature of the story is suspicious. Some might think the most unbelievable part of the story is someone trying to steal Madden 22, but since it was number 9 on GameStop's most pre-ordered games after E3, that part, amazingly, checks out.
