Warframe Developer Reveals New Free-To-Play Action MMO Soulframe

Warframe TennoCon

Warframe developer Digital Extremes announced has announced its new action MMO Soulframe at TennoCon 2022.

It’s described as a free-to-play sister title of Warframe that draws inspiration from various works such as The NeverEnding Story (1984), and Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s projects like Princess Mononoke (1997) – highlighting a collision between industry and nature.

Creative director Geoff Crookes added some extra insight:

“The conceit [in ‘Soulframe’] is that the world itself is a little angry about what’s been done to it, and the grounds underneath tend to shift throughout the day. So there’s going to be proceduralism within the cave networks and crevasses and so on underneath the world.”

Instead of sci-fi, the game is made up of fantasy themes – with cooperative player-vs-environment combat, and procedurally generated environments. And rather than shooting, the focus here is melee combat – so expect “a lot more slow and heavy” engagements.

There’s no release date or platforms announced just yet, but if you do like the look of this new project, you can register for email updates on the official game website. What do you think of this new MMO reveal by Digital Extremes? Leave a comment down below.
