Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and Director Kenji Oguro provided an in-depth look at Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin‘s post-launch content including co-op gameplay, a new story trailer, and more.

When the original Monster Hunter Stories released in 2016, it wasn’t exactly unloved, but it was still a relatively niche concern in the West. It was loved by a dedicated core but yet to capture the mainstream imagination.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 continues the original’s turn-based framework and is once again handled by Capcom’s internal team with support from Marvelous. However, this time it will be available on both the Nintendo Switch and the PC.

The extensive post-launch roadmap also detailed the challenging and rewarding end-game content awaiting after the game’s release on Switch and PC. In addition, the new story trailer provides one final look at the gripping narrative in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.

In addition to the previously announced first post-launch update, which will introduce the fan-favorite Palamute from Monster Hunter Rise as a ridable Monstie to Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin on July 15, today’s special program explained details five additional free updates arriving in the game through October 2021.

Title updates

Title Update 2 will be released on August 5. It will include the golden Elder Dragon Kulve Taroth as a new co-op quest for Monster Riders to do together. While Kulve Taroth is not accessible as a rideable Monstie, the materials obtained during her quest is vital in the creation of strong new equipment. Hellblade Glavenus and Boltreaver Astalos is also included as new Monsties in this update.

Title Update 3 releases in early September, including new Monsties Soulseer Mizutsune, Elderfrost Gammoth, and Oroshi Kirin. Title Update 4 arrives in late September, following on the heels of these thrilling new Monsties with Dreadking Rathalos and Molten Tigrex. Kulve Taroth returns in a new high-difficulty co-op mission that provides Monster Riders the chance for even bigger prizes.

Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian arrive in October as part of Title Update 5, which also announces the coming of a rare mystery monster as part of a challenging co-op mission that gives resources for creating very strong weapons.

Co-op gameplay

Tsujimoto-san and Oguro-san offered a thorough look at the numerous ways that players may participate in co-op expeditions – including exploration, combat strategy, uncovering Monster Dens, choosing eggs, and hatching new and unique Monsties – during the co-op gameplay reveal.

The team also shared a behind-the-scenes look at how the first Monster Hunter Stories came to be, their goals for a sequel, and their inspiration for the designs of new and returning characters.

Launch date

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam on July 9, 2021. The Standard Edition retails for $59.99 and the digital-only Deluxe Edition is $69.99.
